How Much Water Should I Drink Per Day? The Best Ways To Avoid Dehydration

By Bianca Miranda

It’s the year 2018, and it’s coming close to 2019. These days it feels as if life is moving at an extremely fast pace. Most of us end up feeling like we cannot keep up. We are so busy trying to keep up with life, social media, relationships, and maybe even the Kardashians, that it almost leaves us no proper time to take care of ourselves.

There are many days that it seems there is so much going on that we forget the basics. When I say basic, I mean, real basic! Like, making sure you know not only how to drink more water, but how to stay properly hydrated through other means.

Did you know that some of our daily issues can all be summed up with one simple solution; staying properly hydrated?

Have you ever felt uncomfortable symptoms like being tired, irritable and confused, bothered by headaches, dry skin, dizziness, and a rapid heartbeat and/or breathing, and wondered if something simple could possibly help? These are signs dehydration, and staying well hydrated at all times is key.

But even though most of us know about the many benefits of drinking water, some people don’t know how to stay hydrated on the go.

1. Drink more water

The first, easiest step is to drink more water! No, I am not talking about the water in coffee or alcohol; I am talking about good ol’ H2O.

According to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine:

"The vast majority of healthy people adequately meet their daily hydration needs by letting thirst be their guide. The report did not specify exact requirements for water, but set general recommendations for women at approximately 2.7 liters (91 ounces) of total water -- from all beverages and foods -- each day, and men an average of approximately 3.7 liters (125 ounces daily) of total water."

Take a water bottle with you wherever you go. Keep refilling that bottle of yours and make it a habit of not going anywhere without it. This is how to stay hydrated the easy way.

Is water too plain for you? Not a problem! There are so many other options.

Gatorade offers great taste and electrolytes. Not into that either? There are several options out there for vitamins, electrolytes, and flavor to be added to your water. You can take these simple little packets that you can take on the go!

If you are looking for a more “natural” way to flavor your water, infusing your water not only tastes amazing but it’s definitely becoming more of the trend!

Wondering how to make infused water?

Just place fruit, veggies, or a combination in water. Over time this water will naturally start grabbing the flavor of those that you added. These fruits and veggies are great for taste and health benefits. Since it is going to taste amazing you will most likely be consuming more water!

2. Stay hydrated through eating

If drinking tons of fluids for hydration just isn’t for you and has always been an epic fail, don’t worry. You can actually eat things to help you hydrate.

There are plenty of food options that are made up of mostly water!

Fruits and veggies such as, cucumbers, celery, watermelon, tomatoes, grapefruit are all made up above 90% water. So while you are on the move, try bringing some healthy snacks with you.

3. Avoid dehydration with a hydration pack

Many companies have designed backpacks that include a water pouch! So before you head out on your adventure, fill up with your hydration choice and take it with you.

While the hydration pack is on your back, there is a long tube and bite valve so you can literally drink and be on the move. If this is something you haven’t tried, you should. This is another simple and easy way to stay hydrated on the go!

These are just some of the many easy ways for you to stay hydrated on the go.

To some it might feel like an inconvenience. But, you don’t need to feel that way. Once staying hydrated in your routine you won’t want it any other way.

So give some of these ideas a try for your busy lifestyle and reap the benefits that come along with it!

And as food for thought, here's something to remember about hydration from Paul C. Bragg N.D., Ph.D. and Patricia Bragg N.D., Ph.D.:

“People who ingest a sufficient amount of the right kinds of liquids (distilled water, fresh fruits and vegetables and their juices) have better body functioning and circulation overall, which are most important to Super Health and Long Life.”
