Since 2002, John Cornyn has served as a U.S. Senator from Texas, and is currently the Senate Majority Whip. He was previously Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, and before starting his political career, from 1985 to 1991, he was a judge on the Texas 37th District Court, and associate justice of the Texas Supreme Court from 1991 to 1997.

Cornyn was also the Attorney General of Texas for one term, from 1998 to 2002, until he won a seat in the Senate. But he’s probably most noted for his unwavering support of Brett Kavanaugh and Republicans’ attempts to confirm him to the U.S. Supreme Court. Most recently, he compared their fight to that of Atticus Finch from To Kill A Mockingbird.
