Aretha Franklin is known for being an inspiring, talented, soulful singer since the 1960s with her first hits like Do Right Woman — Do Right Man,” Think, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman. She was the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, and she also sang Precious Lord at the Martin Luther King Jr’s memorial service as well as America (My Country ‘Tis of Thee) at former President Barack Obama’s inauguration.
Aretha Franklin is a household name — and for good reason. She was never afraid to show off her strength and she paved the way for a lot of other female artists to do the same. Her voice was so powerful it could move mountains and it certainly made an impact on a lot of people.
Aretha made a difference. She stood by what she believed in and made her life into song. She sang from the soul and heart. Her song Respect was a demand for equality and freedom, a message that you should never take anything less.
Aretha died Thursday morning at her home in Detroit at age 76 from pancreatic cancer.
