 Is Kate Spade related to David Spade? Designer Kate Spade was found dead in her home of an apparent suicide at the age of 55 on Tuesday, June 5th. She will be remembered for her distinctive and iconic contributions to the fashion industry. Her death has left many people wondering if she was related to actor David Spade. 1. Was Kate related to David Spade?

Yes. David was Kate's brother-in-law. He is Kate Spade's husband Andy's brother.

2. David's best known for Saturday Night Live.

While Kate is best known for her fashionable and iconic handbags, her brother-in-law is a comedian and actor best known for his work on Saturday Night Live in the 1990s, the sitcom Just Shoot Me, as well as his work in films including Tommy Boy and Joe Dirt.

3. Kate appeared on Just Shoot Me.

Kate had cameo appearances as herself on her brother-in-law's sitcom Just Shoot Me in 2002.

4. There are three Spade brothers.

In an interview with Esquire magazine, David revealed his mother raised him and his brothers as a single mom working as a secretary and in a department store.

Although David Spade is pretty active on social media, as of this writing he has not publicly addressed his sister-in-law's death.

8. David isn't Kate's only famous relative.

Kate's niece is the actress Rachel Brosnahan, who stars in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and previously appeared on House of Cards. In October 2015, Brosnahan talked to the Los Angeles Times about her famous aunt.

“One of aunt Katie’s influences was my fabulous grandmother, June, who always had a closet full of amazing shoes and scarves and handbags."

9. Kate was proud of her niece. 

Brosnahan won the Golden Globe for best actress for the role of Mrs. Maisel. Kate gushed about her niece's success to Page Six.
