She is a world class supermodel, he is a World Series winning superstar pitcher for the Houston Astros. They are a beautiful couple who collaborate on charitable projects. Justin Verlander and Kate Upton have been together for four years (after being on and off for a while) and are happily married.
Justin and Kate are loyal to each other to the end: Kate once told off Major League Baseball when Justin didn't win the American League Cy Young Award in 2016. Justin defended Kate when she went public as part of #MeToo, outing Guess founder Paul Marciano. They have a great relationship, but it has it's adorable quirks. Here are 15 awkward details about Kate Upton and Justin Verlander's relationship you might not know:
1. Their first meeting was awkward.
Justin spotted Kate on a commercial shoot and he told his buddies that he was going to get her number. Turns out his microphone was on and she heard him! It clearly worked out in the end, but it's a pretty funny way to first meet your soulmate.
2. They don't work out together.
The couple that sweats together is not Kate Upton and Justin Verlander. They both love to gym — just not together. This makes sense because they have different goals and apparently Kate likes to chat and Justin would rather focus on his workout.
3. Their nudes were once hacked .
Once upon a time naked pictures of the couple were stolen by hackers and revealed. While Kate has previously posed topless, those were shared with her consent whereas the nudes were a horrible invasion of privacy. How awful!
4. They both have Sports Illustrated covers.
He likes to remind her he had his first, but she definitely looked stunning on hers. He was on Sports Illustrated as a pitcher; she graced the cover of a swimsuit edition.
5. They are hilariously adorable on Instagram.
Kate and Justin are super-funny on Instagram. They recorded this dubsmash together and it is EVERYTHING. Seriously, give it a watch, it's great for a laugh. The recreated the interview scene from Step Brothers and it's perfection.
6. She's more recognizable than he is.
He said his weirdest fan encounter was when someone in Slovenia recognized him instead of her. Snap! Stop fighting, you two, you're both gorgeous!
7. Baseball gets in the way of their sex life.
Sex before a game or after? Neither. He said absolutely never will they have sex before a baseball game and then he's too tired after and that kills the mood for her. He say the hardest part of playing baseball is that it takes him away from her, too.
8. They have a bit of an age gap.
He is ten years older than her, which is why she tries to put face masks on him. She wants him to look good when he's older. Something tells us he is going to be just as hot as an old man and she will be just fine. Better safe than sorry, though. Wink, wink.
9. His Grandpa outed their relationship.
Justin's 87-year-old grandpa spilled the beans on his grandson's budding romance with Kate Upton in the most adorable way. While he thought Kate was beautiful, he was only too quick to point out how handsome his grandson was too.
10. Their proposal was awkward.
She was worried about looking materialistic by staring at the ring so she didn't even look at it. He thought she hated it. Thank goodness she said yes! What an awkward beginning to a beautiful relationship.
11. They had a secret engagement.
They announced their engagement at the Met Gala, where she was dressed up looking stunning in Top Shop. The engagement had happened a while before, but that's where she was first spotted with her glorious engagement rock.
12. They missed their own wedding .
They double booked themselves with the World Series so the party started without them. They got there eventually, but they were taken around on Facetime to see their guests because they couldn't be there in person. If you're going to miss your wedding for a baseball game, it's a good idea to be in it — and for it to be a big deal! He ended up getting a World Series ring out of the day after all.
13. Their wedding was full of allergens.
Justin is allergic to flowers but that didn't stop Kate from including all the florals on their big day. Justin is a rep for Flonase, so they probably had him covered. The sacrifices one makes when one is in love. His devotion to her is nothing to sneeze at!
14. His reaction to her dress was intense.
Kate changed into a stunning sheer dress in the evening portion of their wedding and he reacted in the most awkwardly enthusiastic way. He said, "The second I saw her in that, I was like, 'OK, time to go. Let's get out of here. Wedding over!"
15. Honeymoon or World Series win? He won't say which was better.
Justin was asked on Twitter which was better, going on a honeymoon with Kate Upton or winning the World Series. The wise man declined to respond, even after getting teased by his wife. His gif reaction was priceless.
Either way, we're super happy for Kate Upton and Justin Verlander and wish them every success in the world (and the next World Series!) They are adorable, loyal, funny and attractive and they have everything going for them — and we hope the face masks work for Justin!
