What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a woman in the 1950s vs. a woman in contemporary America? For some, you may first think of how women dressed because there’s clearly a difference there.
However, that’s only one aspect of the bigger picture where the contrast lies, freedom. And there are some men who want to control a woman's freedom, for a variety of reasons, even to this day.
Women back then, compared to now, had almost no freedom. Before feminism, just about the only privilege women had is the right to vote, which is a right that was only thirty years old at that point. Everything else was off limits.
It was a written law in some places that women were supposed to be paid less in the workplace; they couldn’t make contracts; control their own earnings; in almost every state men had the right to have sex with their wife whenever they pleased (whether the wife was up to it or not), thereby making rape neither here nor there and lastly, birth control was illegal in many places.

Now, companies have to not only be discrete but also have to have a backup plan to explain themselves if they’re going to pay a woman less than a man for doing the same exact job; women can own a house, a business and get an abortion if they please.
A lot has changed. Needless to say, overall women don’t like to be controlled considering where they’ve come from. This holds true whether it’s on a macro or micro level. On a micro level, even in a woman’s friend or relationship if they sense that someone’s trying to control them, or that a man is anti-feminist, they react in a multitude of ways that typically that person will not like.
However, probably the most common way that this happens is within a relationship. As you may have heard, some zodiac signs are more controlling than others. So ladies, if you’re allergic to being controlled here are some of the signals for each horoscope sign that you may want to look out for, according to astrology.
1. ARIES (March 21 - April 19)
Aries men love their place in this patriarchal society, as a man. This has a lot to do with the Mars energy that is within him. He typically does everything to the best of his abilities in order to be in that position of power. Because of that he’s headstrong and gets in his own way pretty often. He tends to be demanding and expects you to do as he says.

2. TAURUS (April 20-May 20)
A Taurus man is stubborn (of course) and tries his best to have everything go his way. Because of this he typically will have trouble saying no to things that make him happy. However, the plus is that a lot of times he won’t try to control you because he’ll be so busy struggling to control himself. You can actually indulge with him in the things that he likes. On that same token though don’t try to take away from him things that he truly loves because it can get pretty nasty then.
3. GEMINI (May 21-June 20)
A Gemini man is least likely to try and control you. This is because he’s not the type to set boundaries at all. He’s very free loving and open-minded. Actually, this is so true that no matter what you do he’ll not only be okay with it (not that you need his approval) but will also support you.

4. CANCER (June 21-July 22)
A Cancer man is tricky. He’ll tell you he’s not controlling you and even fake support you, but lowkey will be putting boundaries on the relationship. It will all be good and well until you do something that rubs him in the wrong way. Once you do he’ll try to shame and guilt you. This will be repeated time and time again until you realize that he’s viewed you as being his little puppet throughout the whole relationship, and finally, stand up to him demanding your freedom.
5. LEO (July 23-August 22)
Despite having such a high value for loyalty, Leos surprisingly won’t overstep their boundaries trying to control you. They’re not into the games so they won’t test you to see how you react in certain situations. If you do something they don’t like they’ll let you know because they don’t mince words. Also if he has to confront you about whatever you did he’ll do it in private because he doesn’t want it to hurt his reputation. That’s what’s super important to him, so just don’t make him look bad and you’ll be good.

6. VIRGO (August 23-September 22)
A Virgo man is super critical of just about everything, especially himself. As a result, he’s pretty particular about the woman he’s with because in his mind it says something about the type of guy that he is. He’s one of those people who believes that the person he’s with represents both him and his values. If he feels like you’re not representing him in a good light then he’ll criticize you (even in public). I know what you’re thinking, yikes! This usually has something to do with his control issues. Unfortunately, Virgo men don’t have that Mother Earth (grounded) energy that Virgo women have because their confidence levels are lower.
7. LIBRA (September 23-October 22)
A Libra man takes love very seriously and fortunately separates extreme boundaries from the definition of love. He’ll expect his freedom and room to breathe, and is totally cool with you doing the same. He’ll not only be cool with it but also even encourage it.

8. SCORPIO (October 23-November 21)
A Scorpio might be the most controlling man that there is. He’ll require you to obey him, and even have you thinking that you ought to. This will get to the point where he’ll expect things to be this way and will have total confidence that it will continue to be. Just so you know his control is related to Pluto. It’s about digging deep and finding energy sources that excite his sexuality. However, if you can’t deal with being controlled then a Scorpio man definitely isn’t for you.
9. SAGITTARIUS (November 22-December 21)
A Sagittarius man is controlling in a hypocritical way. He’s a very social being who likes seeing what life brings him on a daily basis, but while he’s out doing his own thing he expects you to be at home keeping to yourself. If you do the opposite of that and live a life that somewhat matches his spontaneity, it will make him feel insecure.

10. CAPRICORN (December 22-January 19)
A Capricorn man won’t control you, necessarily but he will have certain rules he expects you to follow. You should know that the main reason he expects you to follow those rules is that he has his trust of you tied into them. If you break these rules he won’t hesitate to leave you in the past, and this will happen quickly.
11. AQUARIUS (January 20-February 18)
An Aquarius man is the type to be totally cool with your freedom. He doesn’t believe in control, so a world without rules and categories is a better world in his eyes. Because of his lack of belief in categories he may even be reluctant to call you his “girl” at times, which can be hurtful, however, don’t take it personally, he just likes to be under the impression that he’s noncommittal even if that’s not the case.

12. PISCES (February 19-March 20)
A Pisces man doesn’t like anything about control. He’s very in touch with feelings and he feels as though putting anyone under control would not only be wrong but also a bad thing to do. It’s just within his nature to be sceptical and question everything (including the concept of control).
The downside of his scepticism though is that he probably won’t be the relationship type due to his free spirit mentality questioning everything (because he may even question monogamy at some point if he already doesn’t).
