What It's REALLY Like To Have Sex With A Clit Piercing

OK, first things first: I have never had sex with a "clit piercing" because I do not have — nor have I ever had — said piercing. What I did have is a vertical clitoral hood. And while these two piercings may sound the same, they aren't. In fact, there is a big difference between a clit piercing and a clitoral hood piercing.

According to Elayne Angel, master piercer and author of The Piercing Bible, a clit piercing — also known as a clit piercing or a clitoral glans piercing — passes through the "nub" of skin and nerves, which is the clitoris. However, a clitoral hood piercings passes through the fold of skin above it. Since clit piercings are extremely anatomy dependent, the former piercing is extremely rare while the latter is relatively common. (Does that make any sense?)

But back to my piercing: my clitoral hood piercing. What does it feel like to have sex with a genital piercing? Does it feel like rock jewelry "down there"? What is it like to have sex with metal on your mound?

Well, in my case, it resulted in increased sensitivity and acted as additional external stimuli. It boosted my confidence. It made me feel beautiful and sexual. It made me feel empowered. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Let me first explain my piercing and the physical changes I experienced.

I obtained the piercing in 2010. I was working at a piercing studio at the time — not as a piercer, but in the back offices. In an administrative role. And while I had multiple ear piercings, a nostril piercing, a septum piercing, a navel piercing, and a pair of nipple piercings, I didn't have anything "below the belt."

Until I talked to my colleagues and Elayne Angel did a guest spot at our shop.

Before l knew it, I was picking out "pretty" jewelry — a curved barbell complete with purple CZ's. Before long, I was naked from the waist down. Before long, I was taking a few deep breaths. Before long, I was pierced "down there."

Once my piercing healed, I began experimenting with it; actually, my husband and I began experimenting with my new piercing. I found that since the curved barbell sat directly on top of my clit, my stimulation was greatly increased.

Certain activities, like foreplay and oral sex, became better. Certain positions, like missionary and cowgirl, felt better, and masturbation became exponentially better. While I didn't experience unprovoked orgasms — some women claim to have them "from walking and other physical activities" — I was able to orgasm faster, harder, stronger, and more frequently.

Not to mention these piercings added just enough weight to bring my attention to my entire genital area at all times. This meant I was far more aware of each and every sensation down there, from the rubbing of my underwear to the rubbing of my vibrator.

However, perhaps the most amazing and sexiest part of my private piercing wasn't the sex itself but the newfound confidence it gave me. You see, there was something special about sporting a piercing in my pants. Of course, no one knew about it, but the secrecy of it made it sexy.

It made me feel exotic (and erotic), and it forced me focus on myself. It forced me to get to know myself in ways I hadn't before, and it forced me to figure out what really turned me on.

And that was sexy. That was sensual, and that was downright empowering.

That said, my experience is just that: my experience. Everyone is different. Every woman has their own individual anatomy, their own likes, their own kinks, and their own desires, and what may feel amazing for one may be sort of blah on someone else. So please understand that what I experienced and felt may not be the same for you.

The only way to know what's right for you is to experiment with yourself, experiment with others, and — if and when you're ready — consult with a well-trained piercer. (Not sure how to find someone?
