The 9 Types Of Mind-Blowing Orgasms (And How To Achieve Each One)

Don't limit yourself to just one type.

There seems to be some debate on how many different kinds of female orgasms there are. In a Prevention article, there are five types of happy endings. But in another piece by Refinery 29, there are 12 different types of orgasms.

Instead of picking sides, we need to embrace that fact that there are many different ways to experience pleasure. And while the traditional methods are great, it's a good idea to mix up your methods of getting there, too.

It's also OK if you don't already think of yourself as a master-blaster and are still discovering how to achieve orgasm in the first place. There should be no pressure about experiencing all these kinds of orgasms.

As sex educator Elle Chase says, "I shy away from telling women how many types of orgasms they can have because it's never going to be true for all women. So why should anyone stress about missing out?"

Let's look at a good cross-section of orgasms, so we can get a feel for them, so to speak.

1. The clitoral orgasm

Almost everyone with a clitoris can have a clitoral orgasm. In fact, for some women it's the only way they can reach orgasm.

The clitoris is one of the most sensitive areas of the body with about 8,000 nerve endings. For some women, the clit is almost too sensitive and they prefer a light touch when it's being stimulated.

After orgasm, the clit can become hypersensitive to the point where it's painful. Sex therapist Sari Cooper says in Women's Health Magazine, "Have him make big circles with his fingers that include the shaft, labia, and upper part of the clitoral hood."

You can have your partner using a finger vibrator for more sensations. Oral stimulation is also a good bet for a clitoral orgasm.

2. The vaginal orgasm

Sometimes this is combined with the G-Spot orgasm. This type of O begins in the vagina and either stays focused in the pelvic and lower stomach areas, or spreads out from there.

The uterus, pelvic muscles, and even the anus may begin to contract during this orgasm. This type of orgasm is one that requires a time commitment (at least 20 to 25 minutes) because a quickie isn't going to get you there.

3. The G-spot orgasm

The mysterious G-Spot has a mythology all its own. Some people totally believe in its existence, while others remain skeptical. As with any kind of orgasm, self-exploration is a good way to find out what you like and how to get there.

Your G-Spot is on the top wall of your vagina, halfway between your vaginal opening and cervix. Having your partner enter you from behind, will help him hit the target. Having your partner touch your G-spot directly with his or her fingers is also a good way to trigger the G-spot orgasmic response.

4. The squirting orgasm

This is another one that's like ghosts — you don't believe in their existence until they happen to you.

Female ejaculation happens in conjunction with the G-spot and is usually achieved by feeling very comfortable with your partner, and using some Tantric techniques. Some people call this the A-spot orgasm, or the second G-spot.

5. The blended orgasm

It's almost always a good thing when you mix two great things together. Think an ice-blended latte, or a musical mashup.

A blended orgasm is the sexual mashup of the vaginal and clitoral orgasm. This type of orgasm can be massive and can last anywhere from one to fifteen minutes. The woman-on-top position is good for this. Oh, and lots of foreplay because you need to be seriously aroused to experience this double-the-pleasure orgasm.

6. The deep spot orgasm

This is one of the foreplay family of orgasms. It's achieved by stimulating the area situated way back in the deepest part of the back wall of the vagina — not quite at the cervix, but close. Using the hand as a stimulator works best for this kind of peak-reacher.

7. The coregasm

This may seem like a joke or someone's brilliant idea to make more women want to go to the gym, but apparently a coregasm is an orgasm triggered by exercise. Unfortunately, a few minutes on the treadmill isn't going to cut it; you need to get your heart rate up for this exercise-induced smallish orgasm.

8. The skin orgasm

You know when you're listening to a kickass song or a emotion-inducing piece of music, and you get the chills or goose bumps from the shear brilliance of it? Those chills are called frissons, which are defined as a sudden, passing feeling of excitement.

You can laugh, but I always get a little shudder during the musical break in the middle of the old Billy Idol song "Dancing with Myself."

9. The mental orgasm

Yes, you can think yourself to orgasm. Dr. Barry Komisaruk, author of The Science of Orgasm, says this about how women have mental orgasms: "Some women used a combination of breathing exercises and fantasy. While others used their imagination and pelvic floor exercises."

There are a variety of different types of orgasms and ways to get there, but it doesn't matter if you try all of them or if you stick to what you know.

As Elle Chase says, "As long as you're having fun, who cares? The best advice I would give is to know where you like to be touched and focus on arousal rather than orgasm."
