People Who Are Slowly Losing Their Mental & Emotional Patience Usually Say 9 Phrases In Casual Conversation

Technology gives us answers and entertainment on demand and can make waiting difficult for many. Our idea of hustle culture is also an issue. We feel like we have to go, go, go at all times. It can give us a short fuse with others because our minds are going a mile a minute. A conversation that seems minor to some can feel like the end of a rope for others. It can be hard to stop for a second, take some deep breaths, and return to the interaction with a clear mind. This causes some to be overly snappy with the people in their life because they are so close to their breaking point.
Common phrases that are a giveaway that someone is about to lose their mental and emotional patience:
1. ‘It’s fine’

We have all been guilty of saying something is fine when it isn’t. For some, it’s the easiest way to avoid conflict. They may not have the patience to hash things out with someone and choose to keep their true feelings to themselves. This can lead to resentment and issues interacting with others. They’re secretly losing their patience over something, but are avoiding bringing it up.
Some people tend to minimize their needs. This could be from trauma or other instances where they felt like they weren’t being heard in the past. This can lead them to lose patience over time and make it feel impossible to keep their cool. They are emotionally burnt out.
2. ‘Don’t worry about it’
The constant disappointment of being let down by others can cause deep-seated resentment that eats away at patience over time. If you ask someone to do something and they consistently drop the ball, that person can make you feel like you can’t rely on them for anything. Instead of confronting them, it may be easier to tell them it’s fine and not to worry about it. In reality, they are losing their patience each time they are let down.
This can unfold in many different ways. Whether it’s a co-worker who never does the tasks you ask them to do, or a friend who cancels every plan you make, it is discouraging. Their patience is so thin that they’d rather act like everything is okay than hash out their problems.
3. 'I just need some space'
If someone is at their breaking point, they may seem constantly irritable. I experience this at times, and it’s not my finest moment. If I know I am close to losing my mental and emotional patience, it’s easier to walk away from the situation entirely. Taking space helps me, and it can help others with a low patience level as well.
They may not realize they are overly irritable. It can stem from trauma or mental health concerns, which can take a toll on patience over time. It may be easier for them to ask for space to avoid conflict than to push through their irritability.
4. ‘I’ll get to it eventually’

When someone lacks patience, their to-do list can feel overwhelming. They may be trying to stick to a specific schedule, and if something doesn’t go as planned, they might struggle to go with the flow. This constant grind is not sustainable. Eventually, they may find themselves tired and overworked, which can lead to a change in how they manage tasks. This often impacts their relationships with others.
When someone doesn’t have the patience to do something because they feel burnt out from their constant busy schedule, they may start putting things off. If someone asks them to do something they don’t have the capacity for, it might be easier for them to say they’ll get to it eventually, even if they have no intention to follow through.
5. ‘I’m not going to explain this again’
Patience takes self-control. It’s not always easy to stay calm and collected in every situation. How many times have you had to explain something over and over until you've had enough? This is a frustrating routine that gets old quickly. When someone is close to losing their patience, they may say phrases like these because they genuinely do not have the capacity to rehash it.
When you’re easily frustrated, taking time to thoroughly explain something you thought the other person should have understood the first time may feel like the end of the world. It can be exhausting repeating yourself until you’re blue in the face.
6. ‘I’m too busy for this’
Burnout is real. We can push ourselves until stress overwhelms us. This can be an issue when it comes to having patience with others. Instead of approaching them with kindness, we might feel completely overwhelmed. This can cause us to snap at the other person, whether we mean to or not.
When the world feels like it’s moving a mile a minute, it can be too much to take on other tasks. While some may think telling someone they’re too busy to help them is rude, it’s actually a good way for that person to advocate for themselves.
7. ‘Can we not do this right now?’
Being at the breaking point of mental patience can show up in the way we speak to others. Some conversations take serious effort to give a thoughtful answer. This can be especially difficult for someone who feels like they’re slowly approaching the end of their rope and don’t want to go too deep with the person they’re chatting with. If something is irritating them, they might want to push it off and hope they never bring it up again, or at least wait until they are in a somewhat better headspace.
If someone in your life is losing patience with time, you may notice they jump to irrational or destructive responses. It can be easier to avoid having the conversation when they are reaching their limit.
8. ‘I’m tired of dealing with this’

If someone is having a hard time managing their reactions, it could be a sign of emotional dysregulation. Their patience is slim because everything feels like a big deal. They might take it out on other people, or struggle to work through problems because they are overwhelmed.
Emotions might stand in the way of someone accomplishing their goals. Instead, they give up without putting in the effort that the task deserves. They may start to go blank or shut down, exhausted from their overwhelming emotions. If you see someone staring off into space or telling you they're tired of dealing with things they used to enjoy, they may be struggling with their emotions and losing patience.
9. ‘Whatever you want’
Trying to convince someone to do something your way isn’t always easy. Many people are stuck in a my way or the highway mentality. This is frustrating for anyone to deal with, but especially for someone on the brink of losing their patience. Instead of pushing back, they’ll often let things go. They’ve given up on trying to win them over.
When someone says "whatever you want," it can be a sign that their brain is depleted. They no longer see the situation as important because they are frustrated and overwhelmed. While it may sound like they are trying to be nice and let the other person choose, it can also be a sign that they are fed up and running on fumes.
