People may become forgetful for a variety of reasons. Memory problems can be either temporary or chronic, and it's pretty common for people to sometimes forget what they were just planning to do as soon as they change locations or start to take action.

Pretty much everyone has dealt with this particular situation before. You walk into a room and suddenly have absolutely no idea why you're there. You stand there for a second, stare at the wall like it might help jog your memory, then walk back into the room you came from, hoping the answer will magically return. If that sounds familiar, you're definitely not alone, and you probably find yourself saying the same things over and over again when it happens.

People who tend to forget what they were about to do as soon as they walk into a room say these phrases all the time

1. 'Why did I come in here again?'

Few experiences are more humbling for a person than confidently strolling into a room, only to stop dead in their tracks when they have absolutely no clue why they're there. They might stand around, thinking, "Why did I come in here again?"

The classic solution is to just walk back to where they started until something eventually jogs their memory. That is, until the next time they get distracted halfway through a task and find themselves asking the exact same question all over again.

2. 'What was I saying?'

Forgetful people know this phrase often comes up at the most inconvenient times. They'll be halfway through telling a story and sharing something that feels so important when, poof, the thought disappears. They're talking one second, then the next, they're staring into space, waiting for their brain to catch up.

Normally, someone else might try to help fill in the blanks. However, if nobody can remember where the conversation was going, maybe it actually wasn't that important in the first place.

3. 'I completely forgot'

For some people, this phrase isn't an excuse. It's just an accurate description of what happened. They may have every intention of getting something done, only to later realize that the thought slipped away from them.

They tend to remember at the worst possible time, too: while lying in bed at night, or ten minutes after they've already left the house. It comes rushing back, followed by the familiar feeling that they could have taken care of it if the information stayed around for a little longer.

4. 'What was I supposed to do?'

This phrase pops up after someone remembers that they did need to do something, but they just don't know what it was. It might make them pause in the middle of the day, but unfortunately, their brain isn't offering any clues.

That's when they engage in a little mental scavenger hunt. They retrace their steps, check their phone, look around the room, and wait for the memory to hit them. Sometimes, it works, but other times, it eludes them for hours or even days.

5. 'It was just on the tip of my tongue'

There's something especially frustrating about someone knowing a word\ or piece of information but being unable to pull it out of their brain. They can practically feel the answer hovering in the background, but no matter how hard they concentrate, it simply refuses to come out.

Everyone around may be staring at them with a confused smile while they dig themselves deeper, trying to describe whatever it is they wanted to say. Naturally, the word won't come to them until the moment has been long gone.

6. 'Wait, I know I had something to do'

This phrase often hits after a person gets a vague feeling that they're forgetting something important but can't remember what it is. They might be sitting on the couch, scrolling on their phone, when suddenly a little alarm goes off in their brain saying they were supposed to be doing something.

From there, it becomes a guessing game. Was it an email? A phone call? Something to be picked up from the store? They mentally run through every single possibility until the answer finally returns to them.

7. 'Where did I put that?'

Forgetful people can spend an impressive amount of time looking for an item they were holding five minutes ago. Their keys or phone have vanished, even if they literally just put it down. They'll check the same spots repeatedly, becoming more and more convinced that someone else must have moved it.

Eventually, the missing item turns up somewhere completely unexpected. At that point, all they can do is laugh because putting something down and remembering where it went are apparently two different skill sets.

8. 'My brain just stopped'

Sometimes, there isn't even a gradual lead-up to forgetting. One minute, a person is following a thought or heading somewhere with a clear purpose, and the next? Nothing. It's like someone hit pause on their brain without any warning.

That's when they usually go quiet for a moment, hoping their brain will quickly reboot itself. Whatever they were doing may come back, but until then, this is the only explanation they've got.

9. 'I'll remember eventually'

Forgetting something isn't the same as giving up on it forever. Some people are convinced that the thought they lost is still floating around somewhere in their head and will return when it's good and ready.

Oddly enough, they're usually right. By then, they've likely already solved the problem or moved on with their day, but what's important is the principle that they did end up remembering.
