For a lot of people, it seems like common sense to take others' feelings into account.

Unfortunately, there are some folks who just couldn't care less. There's a good chance that inconsiderate people saw their role models display that kind of selfish behavior and then just took it on themselves. And they almost always give away how little they care in the things they say.

People who say these phrases regularly are highly inconsiderate

If we turned human suffering into some kind of competition, there really would always be someone else who has it worse. But those people aren't going to feel any better if we minimize our own challenges.

When someone else tells you this, it's because of their own issues. Someone could tell them about the most serious problem in the world, and they would still label them as an annoying complainer. They're so inconsiderate that it just doesn't matter to them.

2. 'You've always been way too sensitive'

Some people are more sensitive than others, which leaves them reacting more strongly to both good and bad things. That's just a part of their personality that should be accepted by their friends. Anyone who's inconsiderate won't see it that way, though.

Because they just don't have time for other people's big emotions, they have no problem turning this into a criticism. They'll roll their eyes at the most valid emotional response because it's not something they want to deal with.

3. 'That's really not a big deal'

Inconsiderate people are well-versed in emotional invalidation. This means they have a gift for making others feel like their emotions are wrong or don't matter.

Validating someone's emotions doesn't require agreeing with them. But inconsiderate people aren't very good at being supportive, whether they think someone's right or wrong. They'll write off the things that are truly affecting others without a second thought.

4. 'Calm down, it was just a joke'

Most people are familiar with how hurtful it feels to be told to "calm down." This phrase makes the person who hears it think that there's something wrong with the way they reacted, so it doesn't actually accomplish anything useful.

That's the kind of thing a mentally and emotionally inconsiderate person says when someone's emotional response feels inconvenient to them. There's a good chance they overstepped in a big way, but they choose to put the blame on the other person and act like a victim themselves.

5. 'That happened a long time ago'

It would be understandable for even the most patient and empathetic person to get frustrated when someone brings up a very minor source of stress from years ago. Events that are truly traumatic don't just fade from someone's mind overnight, though.

That's the kind of thing that's going to stick with them regardless of how much time has passed. There's nothing more inconsiderate than someone saying "that happened a long time ago" and that they need to get over it because it's been way too long for them to still care.

6. 'You complain about everything'

Complaining is complicated because it can be both good and bad. It's obviously an easy way to spread negativity, but venting really can help people sometimes.

When you know you don't spend too much time complaining and are just letting some frustration out, it's pretty easy to spot an inconsiderate person when they point it out.

Someone who says this isn't just inconsiderate, but also complaining themselves. The bottom line is they just don't want to listen to you.

7. 'I'm the only one trying to help you'

This phrase is masked in kindness but manipulative in reality. It's an inconsiderate person's way to guilt-trip someone into believing they're doing something wrong.

The inconsiderate person is actually the one in the wrong since they're pretending to be supportive and claiming to be the only person acting that way. They're also not being helpful at all, but they don't want you to realize that.
