People Who Are Completely Comfortable Being Themselves Regularly Do 5 Things That Feel Risky To Everyone Else
ShotPrime Studio / Shutterstock Many people spend their time trying to fit in and avoid standing out in a crowd, but those who genuinely understand themselves tend to move differently. They prioritize authenticity over being accepted.
Sometimes, that includes doing things that others might see as risky, from speaking honestly to making bold choices. For them, however, it's simply part of living a life that actually feels like their own.
Things people who are comfortable in their own skin often do that feel risky to others:
1. They say what they really think

People who feel secure in who they are never shape their opinions around what they think will get the best reaction. They're totally fine with admitting they don't like something trendy and speaking up when they disagree. They want to keep the peace while also standing firm in their beliefs.
Not everyone is going to approve of them, and they're okay with that. They only want to be liked for who they really are. But for many people, saying what they actually think feels too risky because they fear being judged or rejected.
2. They let people misunderstand them
Being misunderstood is an uncomfortable feeling. It usually comes with a strong instinct to provide an explanation and clear things up. People who embrace their true selves, however, know that they can't control how everyone interprets their choices.
They don't exhaust themselves trying to manage every interaction they have with someone else. Sometimes, people will decide you're not their cup of tea no matter what you do, and secure people don't let it bother them.
3. They confidently say 'no' without making excuses
Many people feel like saying "no" is somehow a negative mark on their character. They have to follow it up with excuses and apologies to make sure the other person isn't upset with them. However, people who live life on their own terms don't feel the need to do all that.
They can be kind without bending over backward to keep everyone happy. They can be tired, have other plans, or just not feel like doing something and not feel the urge to explain themselves. Just because someone is disappointed by their answer doesn't mean they did anything wrong.
4. They openly enjoy whatever they want

Deeply self-assured people indulge in their interests without being worried about how others perceive them. They'll happily admit they love a cheesy reality TV show or listen to their favorite songs from 10 years ago. Their hobbies might not be considered cool, but they don't mind.
That kind of confidence is often seen as risky because some people keep their guilty pleasures private to avoid being judged. They're more concerned with impressing those around them than freely enjoying the things they like.
5. They walk away from things that no longer feel right for them
People who are unapologetically themselves can recognize when a relationship no longer feels healthy. Walking away is still hard, but they know it's necessary to protect their own well-being.
Others might see it as giving up or being too picky. For these types of people, it's not about proving a point or making a dramatic exit. They just understand that staying somewhere that feels wrong comes at too high a cost.
