People Who Are Emotionally Deep But Have Zero Patience Usually Say 9 Phrases In Casual Conversation

Psychology helps explain why, since our minds often prefer smaller, immediate rewards over outcomes that unfold over time. This can cause people who have zero patience to begin with to react poorly in conversations. Playing the waiting game isn't something these people do well, especially when they crave instant gratification. Emotionally deep people may crave thoughtful conversations and have plenty to say, but that doesn't always make them patient listeners; they end up rushing, interrupting, or even dismissing the conversation altogether. Their impatience can leave everyone else feeling unheard and turn a potentially interesting conversation into a frustrating one.
Here are 9 phrases emotionally deep people with zero patience say in casual conversation:
1. 'I don't do small talk'
A study found that most people prefer a deep conversation over a surface-level one. It allows for stronger bonds to form. However, we don't always have time to get into the most thought-provoking topics, especially when we meet someone new. All of us have to deal with small talk, but those who lack patience can't stand it.
People who prefer deeper conversations see small talk as unnecessary. They don't want to waste their time with something they feel isn't intellectually stimulating. When someone acts this way, they can end up pushing people away rather than having the conversation they wanted because this phrase is often considered rude.
2. 'I'm not in the mood for this'

Impatience and anger often go hand in hand, especially when someone feels stuck in a situation they don't want to tolerate. When this happens in a conversation, it comes across as abrasive. Not being in the mood for something isn't uncommon, but phrasing it poorly can hurt the other person. They may not care how they come across because they are waiting for the next opportunity to weigh in.
Many impatient people may not realize how much their words hurt those around them. If they're called out, they may become even more frustrated, causing further damage to the relationship.
3. 'Skip to the point'
In a moment of vulnerability, I'll share that sometimes, long stories can get under my skin. I know the person telling the story wants me to take in every detail, but that doesn't make a long story any less exhausting. I wouldn't feel comfortable telling someone to hurry up, but an impatient listener may have no problem saying, 'Skip to the point.'
Someone like this might want to fulfill a goal in a conversation. That could be sharing their opinion, or moving on from the conversation entirely. They may be sitting there stewing over what they could be doing instead of listening to what you have to say. If someone repeatedly urges you to get to the point instead of letting you share your thoughts, they may have very little patience for conversations that don't move at their preferred pace.
4. 'That doesn't change anything'
The smallest inconveniences can feel like the end of the world to people who have low frustration tolerance. This can make them give up on a task or conversation when they feel like things are not going their way. For example, someone may be trying to create a solution to a problem, but they are so beyond frustrated they might say it doesn't matter or change anything. It's a sign that this person struggles to manage their stress, and can be difficult to speak to when they feel like what they're being told isn't good enough.
When frustrated, people can become easily annoyed by the things another person is saying. That makes advice difficult to swallow, as well as apologies and perspectives they don't understand. They may lash out because their irritation has made it difficult to consider what the other person is saying.
5. 'I'm bored'

We've all experienced boredom. It can be completely draining, especially when it's a conversation making you feel that way. Impatient people may be direct, but in a way that upsets those they're speaking with. Rude communication is when someone is insulting and impolite, and this phrase can be seen as both.
Being direct can be a good thing. It helps people to know where you stand without any unnecessary sugarcoating. However, there is a fine line between being direct and being rude. Patronizing someone by telling them you're bored with what they're saying is far beyond being direct, and likely hurts the person being told.
6. 'I already covered that'
Someone like this may not realize their responses in conversations make others uncomfortable. Poor reactions can not only damage trust, but completely change the course of the conversation. To avoid making others uncomfortable, they need to slow down, let people finish speaking, and give them room to handle things at their own pace.
This person may be thinking three steps ahead. An impatient person may feel like the topic has already been settled by the time someone asks a follow-up question or brings it up again. Saying they already covered it can sound condescending, especially when the other person is only trying to understand or contribute to the conversation.
7. 'I've heard this before'

I have a friend who is a classic story repeater. She tells me the same things over and over again, but I know it's because she's happy or excited about what occurred. Though I can be easily irritated in conversations, I always pretend like it's the first time I'm hearing it, or say something thoughtful like, 'You told me about this! I'm so excited for you!' to make sure she still feels heard.
Instead of listening again or responding kindly, an impatient person may have no issue dismissing them completely, even if it mattered deeply to the person saying it. It can feel like a waste of their time to rehash something again.
8. 'Stop right there'
A major pet peeve of mine is people who are chronic interrupters. It shows that they aren't listening to what you're saying and are just waiting for the chance to give their opinions. Stopping someone mid-conversation can strain relationships and prevent positive interactions. There are only so many interruptions a conversation can take before it becomes a one-sided lecture and not a group effort.
Telling someone to stop mid-sentence can come across as disrespectful when they haven't done anything wrong. Impatient people may interrupt because they're eager to take over the conversation, even when doing so comes across as rude.
9. 'Let's move on'
Let's face it, we're not going to be interested in every conversation we have. It takes patience to make someone feel heard, even though we wish we were doing anything else while they were talking. Saying 'Let's move on' dismisses the speaker and can make them feel like their opinion doesn't matter. It's disrespectful.
Some think whatever they have to say is more important. Impatient people have no problem changing the subject because they view themselves as the center of every conversation. This behavior is referred to as 'talkaholism,' which shows someone is willing to do anything it takes to fill the room with their own voice. Talking only about what they want keeps genuine connections from forming, which negatively impacts their social lives.
