The first time I ever saw Tom Hardy was in Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette. He took my breath away. The man’s piercing blue-green eyes and pillowy lips have a way of doing that. Plus, add in the fact that he’s got a killer English accent and acting chops for days and you’ve got a man totally worthy of your complete adoration. Also, he loves dogs. Did I mention that he loves dogs? BECAUSE HE DOES.

Allow me to fill you in on all the deliciously juicy details about Tom Hardy's love life, including his girlfriends, wives and those rumors that say he may actually be gay.

1. His first wife was Sarah Ward.

The two married in 1999 and divorced in 2004. There has always been a lot of speculation about what exactly caused their split. While cheating was never mentioned, many suspect it was Hardy’s addiction issues that drove the couple apart.

Tom Hardy hasn’t spoken much about what caused his split with his first wife until very recently. Tom shared that Sarah filed for divorce after five years because she felt Tom was not dedicating enough time to their marriage.

Many couples are often knocked apart when one half of the couple puts an emphasis on their career versus their family life, and it sounds like Tom and Sarah’s was a casualty of that sad-but-all-too-familiar dynamic.

2. Korean actress Linda Park

After he was separated from Sarah Ward but before the couple officially and legally divorced, Tom briefly entered into a year-long relationship with Korean actress Linda Park.

During their brief courtship, the couple starred together in a play called Roger and Vanessa by the playwright Brett C. Leonard. Art imitated life with Tom and Linda playing the lead roles of Roger and Vanessa, a couple from Brooklyn who are forced to grapple with their demons before their love to can move forward together.

After the play was done, the relationship ended not long thereafter.

3. Assistant director and baby mama Rachel Speed

After his breakup with Linda Park in 2005, Tom Hardy met and started dating Rachael Speed, an assistant director.

The couple met during the filming of Hardy’s film The Virgin Queen where Rachael was also working.

What began as a casual dating relationship turned into something much more serious for the two love birds. They would be together for five years, and together would have Tom’s first child, a son named Louis.

4. Second and current wife Charlotte Riley.

Continuing his pattern of meeting romantic partners at work, Tom Hardy met the British actress Charlotte Riley on the set of a TV movie adaptation of the Bronte classic Wuthering Heights in 2009, not long after his breakup with Linda Park.

It was love at first sight, and this time that love would survive the end of their acting project together. In July 2015, Tom Hardy and Charlotte Riley married.

Not long thereafter they welcomed a new baby into their family. Tom’s second child’s name has not been revealed to the public as the couple wishes to be as private as possible about their personal lives.

5. There have been rumors he's gay.

While Tom Hardy has only ever publicly dated and married women, he's been coy with the media when it comes to questions about his sexuality.

In 2008, Tom Hardy was featured on the cover of the gay British magazine Attitude, promoting his part as a closeted mobster in the movie RocknRolla.

Naturally, given the subject matter at hand, Tom Hardy was asked several questions about his sexual orientation.

Interviewer: Have you ever had any sexual relations with men?

Tom: As a boy? Of course I have. I’m an actor for [expletive's] sake. I’m an artist. I’ve played with everything and everyone. But I’m not into men sexually. I love the form and the physicality, but the gay sex bit does nothing for me. In the same way as a ... vagina would turn someone else into a lemon-sucking freak. To me, it just doesn’t compute now I’m into my 30s, and it doesn’t do it for me, and I’m done experimenting.

Interviewer: Have you done it all?

Tom: Not all but I can imagine. ... It just doesn’t do it for me, sex with another man. But there’s plenty of stuff in a relationship with another man, especially gay men, that I need in my life. A lot of gay men get my thing for shoes. I don’t think I’m metrosexual, but I’m definitely my mother’s son. I have definite feminine qualities and a lot of gay men are incredibly masculine.

When his career later exploded, Tom Hardy seemed to have regretted making these comments in Attitude. But he didn’t directly address these comments again until he did an interview with UK Marie Claire in 2011:

"I don’t regret anything I’ve ever said. It’s just a shame things are misconstrued and I don’t get the opportunity to explain.’"Not even the time he said he’d enjoyed relationships with men in his twenties?

‘I have never put my penis in a man,’ is Hardy’s characteristically direct response. ‘I’ve never had a cock in my arse, and I have no fucking desire for it. If that’s what you like, cool. But it doesn’t do it for me.’ He’s irritated his words were taken out of context but conceded, ‘one thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about’.”

Whether he’s with a man, a woman, or no one at all, we can all agree that Tom Hardy is still absolutely the bees' knees.
