Women everywhere: Duh.

That old saying "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach" had it so wrong. It should actually read "the way to a woman's heart is through her stomach."

I have a number of women close to me, who, when they say they're hungry, you pretty much drop everything and get them food. Seriously. I can't even begin to explain what happens to them when hunger threatens to overtake them. It's not pretty and isn't a situation I'd ever, voluntarily, put myself in again.

If a woman is hungry, everything is off the table (metaphorically speaking) ,and it's never a good time to pursue romance or sex. Hunger works like a reverse aphrodisac.

So, I wasn't surprised when a new study from Drexel University found that women feel more romantic after they've eaten, rather than beforehand.

During the study, researchers, led by Dr. Alice Ely, asked participants — who were a group of normal-weight female students — to fast for 8 hours, before showing them a variety of neutral and romantic images while they were inside an MRI scanner.

When the women were done looking at the images and ready to eat their own hair, they were given a chocolate-flavored meal-replacement shake. The experiment was then repeated all over again. This time, the women demonstrated a stronger reaction to the romantic cues.

Dr. Ely said in the journal Appetite, "We found that young women both with and without a history of dieting had greater brain activation in response to romantic pictures in reward-related neural regions after having eaten than when hungry."

In other words, the participants (whether they'd ever been on a diet or not) were much more responsive when fed.

Next time a woman (or man, for that matter) tells you they're hungry, stop everything and get them something to eat! It's just safer that way.
