Vladeep / Shutterstock There’s a difference between saving your money and being a cheapskate — a BIG difference — and some of us, based on our zodiac signs, tend to be way more frugal than others.
When you save your money, it’s usually because you’re saving up for something expensive. Big ticket items like a car or a house, or because you need the funds for loans and other important bills.
When you’re a cheapskate, you’re just plain stingy with your money. There's a difference between a frugal person and one who is just cheap.
A frugal person weighs the cost in light of their overall budget. Maybe you refuse to hang out with your friends on the weekend because then you have to buy drinks and food. You don't want to feel pressured to chip in for another friend, too. Then, you're probably savvy with your spending and frugal.
Maybe you believe that spending money on anything except the necessities is frivolous. This borders along the lines of frugality but a little bit cheap. Life is mean to be enjoyed and you can include things you need with some that you want if your budget and save time.
You don’t have to blow ALL of your money all the time. The money mind of a cheap person is that they look at money through a black and white lens. There are no grays.
But not ever wanting to have fun or not even tipping at restaurants (which should never be optional, in my opinion) makes you seem a little, well... cheap.
What’s worse is having a terrible excuse for not supporting hard-working service industry workers or not wanting to treat a friend every now and then.
Being a cheapskate is usually never a good thing to want to be. Thrifty and frugal are much better words, but they also mean something totally different.
We’ve all seen A Christmas Carol, right? You know who was a total cheapskate in that movie? Mr. Scrooge. Don’t be like Mr. Scrooge.
Worse yet, there are people who are always pinching their pennies and making it seem like you’re a terrible person for spending your cash. These individuals are another breed of cheapskate.
The people who conveniently always forget their wallet when you go out for dinner are the same zodiac signs who will not offer to pay for your meal while on a date. They never want to pick up the check in full (always suggesting you pay for yourself).
They only ever want to do things when you volunteer to pay; any other time, they prefer to just stay at home where it’s free.
Like I said, there’s nothing wrong with saving your money.
But if you always take advantage of the kindness of your friends and family, you’re doing this whole “save your cash” thing wrong. And thanks to astrology, you can always know which zodiac signs are most likely to be cheapskates (AKA the signs you should probably not bother inviting out next Friday).
These signs are usually either very cautious in general or always try to make informed decisions, but however you spin it, they’re still major cheapskates.
The other side of the scale though, the signs who will blow their whole paycheck the minute they get it, are the signs who will constantly buy you late-night Taco Bell and presents “just because.”
You don’t want to take advantage of them either, but they do sometimes act a little nicer about borrowing money and picking up the bar tab.

TAURUS (Apr 20 - May 20)
Depending on who you talk to, Taurus can either be described as a cheapskate or a serious saver. When he does want to spend money on something, he spends a LOT of time researching. He weighs the pros and cons and asks for opinions before handing over any money.
And even then, it’s not uncommon for him to experience buyer’s remorse afterward. So it’s probably safe to say that Taurus is never one to just throw his cash around for anyone or anything.
Taurus is also known to be someone who hates owing people money. Look at it this way: if he doesn’t know exactly where each cent of his money is, there’s an issue.
Whether you’re going out to the movies or to dinner with him, chances are pretty good that he’ll suggest you both pay for yourselves, instead of one person picking up the check for both of you.
Taurus is obviously very conscious of his money, almost to the point where it’s hard to enjoy any plans with him that involve spending money.
VIRGO (Aug 23 - Sep 22)
Virgo is thrifty about his money, but for a completely different reason. Virgo is often considered to be a worrier and, when it comes to his money, he worries HARD.
Not only does he have to know where his money is at all times, but he also has to keep files and accounts of pretty much every penny he spends. While it is a good idea to keep track of your money, Virgo tends to take it too far.
There are some instances that are out of his control – like his credit card being stolen or an accidental charge – but that doesn’t stop him from pretty much freaking out until things are handled.
That means having his bank on speed dial until the charges are resolved and constantly refreshing his account balance on his phone until he sees something different.
And forget about borrowing a few bucks out of his wallet — if you don’t explicitly ask him beforehand, all hell will break loose.
CAPRICORN (Dec 20 - Jan 19)
Capricorn is a great role model when it comes to self-control, but he still takes this control too far. Take money, for example.
He believes that spending too much money is a way to flaunt your status, especially around people who don’t have as much money as you.
A lot of people would agree that this is true, but Capricorn tends to get condescending about it. So much so that he finds spending money to be comparable to repulsive behavior.
Basically, Capricorn wants to practice what he preaches, so when he says that spending money just means someone wants to show off, then it only makes sense that he would be thriftier.
Of course, his biased way of thinking makes him look more like a cheapskate when he refuses to go out to dinner because it’s “extravagant” or treat his significant other to a really nice birthday gift (“you’ll have more birthdays!”)… Yeah, cheap.
SCORPIO (Oct 23 - Nov 21)
There are many reasons for someone to not want to spend their money frivolously — saving for school, wanting to buy a house, needing it for loans — but when it comes to Scorpio, he’s just cheap; plain and simple.
Ask him if he wants to go to a bar on Friday night and he’ll say no. Ask him if he wants to split a pizza instead of cooking and he’ll give you one of those no-nonsense stares that’ll make you wish you never asked.
But why is Scorpio so cheap? He doesn’t really worry about his money or think of it as flaunting something that others don’t have. In reality, he’s just a Scrooge.
He’d rather lock his money away in the bank and never touch it instead of spending it at all. Like I said, it’s great to be conscious about your cash, but when it starts becoming an obsession to hide it away, that’s when you know Scorpio is just plain cheap.
GEMINI (May 21 - June 20)
Gemini likes to have fun and he knows that the best fun happens when you spend a lot of money. Just kidding. But he does know that you can’t completely run away from spending money; all you can do is be smart about it.
And luckily for Gemini, he is pretty smart when it comes to spending versus saving … except for one tiny (actually huge) thing. Gemini is a terrible tipper.
It's not so much that he thinks people don’t deserve tips, but rather that when he finally wants to start saving his money, it’s at the worst times – usually when it’s time to close the tab at the bar.
Then he conveniently forgets to add a tip because he “already spent too much on drinks.” Yeah, sure. Here’s a little tip, Gemini: When you talk like this, you don’t sound anything like a thrifty guy. You just sound like a total cheapskate. Which is never something you want to be labeled, especially when it comes to tipping.
CANCER (June 21 - July 22)
Cancer is suspicious about a lot of things and spending money without thinking about it first is one of them. In fact, he treats spending any amount of money as if he were buying something big like a car or a house.
He weighs his options, he looks around for a cheaper option (even on something inexpensive like a burger and fries!) and asks himself if he really wants whatever he’s buying. Usually, the answer is yes, unless it IS a big purchase, but he still goes through his act every single time.
Cancer would hate to be known as the guy who bought something dumb or useless and became the face of what happens when you’re not conscious about your money.
Even if his friends joke about that time he bought a Shake Weight or something else utterly ridiculous online, he’ll never forgive himself for getting duped. So if that means being suspicious about every purchase he makes so it doesn’t happen again, so be it.
ARIES (Mar 21 - Apr 19)
Aries isn’t so much “cheap” as he is “frugal” when it comes to money. He doesn’t mind spending money on himself at the club or on his best friend for his birthday, but he does believe that thinking before swiping that credit card is important.
If you spend your money on anything and everything you can pretty much guarantee you’re going to regret it later — and Aries doesn’t want to regret any choice he makes.
One thing Aries will do is plan ahead before spending money. If he knows he’s going to go out to the bar on Friday night with friends, then he’ll forgo getting take out earlier in the week and make dinner at home instead.
This act of exchanging one treat for another means his eyes aren’t to totally bug out when he finally gets his credit card bill in the mail. And if he’s feeling really loose with his money, he tends to switch to cash and call it a night when it’s gone instead of relying on his credit card all night. Smart cookie!
AQUARIUS (Jan 20 - Feb 18)
Aquarius likes to have fun and spend money, but he’s definitely cautious about it. He knows that there’s no reason to buy another pair of shoes other than the fact that he wants to.
So, while it may totally suck in the moment, he knows when to stop spending and start saving. This is especially true when he has something to save up for.
If he’s planning on buying a car or going on a trip next summer, he knows that buying an expensive pair of shoes is really just two steps back. That said, once he finally does buy those tickets to Cabo, all bets are off.
That means buying a whole new wardrobe (he needs new sunglasses and flip flops, duh) and spending a lot of cash when he finally gets to his destination. It’s not the perfect plan, but sometimes he can’t help himself. When he achieves one goal, he tends to feel the need to celebrate that.
LIBRA (Sept 23 - Oct 22)
Libra is indecisive when it comes to spending money, but probably one of the WORST kinds of indecisive. If he can’t choose between the double cheeseburger and the chicken wings for dinner, you best believe he’s going to get both.
He loves getting what he wants and having a good time, which is a deadly combination when it comes to money.
Sure he knows how to save money, but really only for things like paying off student loans and contributing to his 401K at work. Any other time, he doesn’t feel the need to choose either or.
Instead, he’d rather just enjoy his money because it makes him happy — and it makes his friends happy too when he treats them all to a round at the bar. If he can make his buddy’s night more fun because he bought drinks, then that’s how he’ll keep spending his money.
PISCES (Feb 19 - Mar 20)
Pisces enjoys spending money because he enjoys making new friends. He knows that if he drops a few bucks on someone he just met — like treating her new colleague at work to coffee or a new friend at school to lunch — that they’ll remember him and his kindness.
He doesn’t spend money because it’s a popularity contest to him, though. He just likes seeing someone else smile.
Plus, Pisces is seriously amazing at buying gifts for holidays and birthdays. He is so intuitive to what his friends and family want, that if he has to drop a few extra bucks than he was planning to make them feel special on their special day, then so be it.
In all truthfulness, when Pisces spends money, it’s because he just wants to spread happiness. Awwwww!
SAGITTARIUS (Nov 22 - Dec 19)
When Sagittarius likes to have fun, he likes to go ALL out. That doesn’t just mean hanging out with friends on a Saturday. That means driving cross-country for a three-day outdoor concert weekend, complete with food, drinks, and fun.
So when it comes time to schedule these awesome road trips and fun vacations, he doesn’t really think twice about money. Plus, making memories lasts a lot longer than money ever will for him.
This isn’t always a good idea, especially when it’s his third weekend trip in a row, but that doesn’t stop him. Anyone who knows Sagittarius knows that if he’s having fun, then everyone else around him should, too.
And if you would rather stay home and save your money, he isn’t going to stop you. He will, however, lend you a few bucks if it means you’ll join him whenever he’s out partying. He isn’t awesome with money, but at least he’s generous with it!
LEO (July 23 - Aug 22)
If there is anyone MORE extravagant than Leo, I haven’t met them yet. Not only does Leo like spending money on his friends, but he also LOVES spending money on himself. I’m talking pedicures and hair treatments, clothes and shoes, and accessories galore.
He’s also crazy about social media, so any time he can show off his expensive goodies to his thousands of followers, you know he’s going to do it.
Unfortunately, Leo is also prone to falling into the debt trap, but don’t waste your time trying to talk him out of spending his money so much. Chances are it’s just going to happen again. Plus, life is short!
If Leo wants to spend money on Leo, let him! At least he’s having the time of his life and being happy while he’s doing it, right?! Right!
