With the release of the newest Wonder Woman movie, there have been a lot of mixed emotions about the whole thing and honestly, I’m tired of it.
Everything negative you heard or read about Wonder Woman all centers around the same topic: why does she get her own movie? Why do women have to be the center of anything?
All of this trash talk about how no one is ready for a woman “insert title here” is getting old, fast.
But enough of this negative talk, because Wonder Woman is a film that should be celebrated for its portrayal of a strong female lead that kicks ass and takes names.
I know I’m not alone when I say that seeing empowered women getting sh*t done only empowers me more.
The fight for acceptance in today’s world is far from over – especially for our WOC – and continuously having a strong outpouring of success and support for all women is something I can definitely get behind.
Not only does Wonder Woman depict the strong female lead we’ve been itching for since the Ghostbusters reboot, but it also gives young girls someone to look up to; more specifically, a woman who doesn’t have to act like anything less than she is (a total badass) for others to like her.
This is something I wish I had known when I was younger because I am still trying to fit into the mold I deserve – without having to water myself down or take up less room than my male counterparts.

And having a role model like Wonder Woman not only makes me feel more confident as a woman, but gives me hope for younger generations as they grow up.
