Love makes us feel some type of way, and a lot of the time it's an emotion we can’t put into words. So we search for the person who, unlike us, is able to do that.

PoemsPorn_ on Instagram publishes pieces that perfectly describe the feelings mulling over in our heads and weighing heavy on our hearts.

Here are 15 times when the writers should’ve won the Pulitzer Prize for Pulling at Our Heartstrings (even if that’s not a thing).

Stay Gone

poem 1

When you’re in love, you tend to overthink everything, so something that may seem as innocent as a text or a compliment in passing can cause us to dive into our minds and think what can it mean. Not to mention, it does horrors to our healing.

We force ourselves to move on when we feel that person no longer wants anything to do with us because we’re no longer wanted and we need to feel wanted. But the second said person shows a twinge of interest, it’s like our healing process is pushed 10 steps backwards.

Forgive and Forget

poem 2

Everything that happens once the relationship is over is up to you. Granted, friends can help you heal, but, ultimately, it’s on you. You have to remember that you were whole before your lover, and though the time before your relationship seems like it was so long ago, you can be whole afterward, too. The pieces of you that you gave them will never come back, but new pieces will fill the holes.

We’ve Forgotten

poem 3

We’ve become the people who are ready to bounce as soon as the going gets tough, because who wants to stick around when things are hard? We want easy. But in becoming the people who leave, we lose our chance of really getting to know someone, someone who may be “the one,” because we don’t want it to be hard, we want it to be smooth-sailing and effortless. In reality, though, no real love is.

Here's to the Lovers

poem 4

Here’s to the lovers that can make us forget all the pain exes caused us. Those are the ones worth having in our lives.

Keep Your Hearts Open

poem 5

How can we open our hearts again when doing so in the past has led to such pain and disappointment? How can we get passed our past? Well, we just kind of have to pretend nothing happened before and learn to trust the person we’re with now. An open heart is a happier heart.

Keep Trying

poem 6

The person we choose to be with is often someone who we admire. They’re the kind of person we long to be. Our bebes bring out the best and the worst in us, and that’s OK. In the end, it’s our job to help them be the person they want to be, the best version of themselves, and if that means waiting for them to grow, it’s worth it.

It Gets Worse Before it Gets Better

poem 7

It always gets worse before it gets better, but it can get better. It’s not going to hurt forever, though it may as well feel like it. It’s going to hurt for a while, but how long of a while depends on you. How long do you want to let someone who left you behind control your life when they’re not even in it anymore?

Ironic, Isn’t It?

poem 8

When someone says, “Never call me again,” very rarely does it actually mean never call me again, especially not with loved ones. We say the opposite of what we want sometimes in hope that the person we’re saying it to knows us well enough to know that we don’t really mean what we’re saying. Saying something like, “never call me again” is a test. We want to see how much you want us. Is it enough to call even though we said not to?

Love Isn’t Always Pretty

poem 9

Relationships get ugly. We totally wish they didn’t, but they do. It’s normal, and it’s in those ugly times where you get to see how much you want to be with the other person. If the ugly times completely turn you off and you don’t feel like they’re worth it, then that’s that and it’s over. If you find yourself wanting to push through those times, you know you’re right where you’re supposed to be.

I’ll Always Love You

poem 10

In the words of Sirius Black, “The ones who love us never really leave us, you can always find them in here (our hearts).” Now, this doesn’t mean that we’ll always be in love with them, but when things don’t work out with someone that once meant the world to us, they’ll always have a little piece of our hearts.
