Love is love! Captain Sandy Yawn of Bravo's Below Deck Mediterranean has confirmed that she's dating gospel singer Leah Shafer. Below Deck is a reality television show that follows a group of people who work aboard yachts that are over 100 feet long. Known as yachties, the crew members live on the luxurious privately owned boats and meet the demands of the yacht owners and guests. Each episode of the show features a different group of passengers and all the issues that come with them. Sandy Yawn is the Captain on the Below Deck Mediterranean spin off series and now she's gone public with her new relationship. Who is Leah Shafer?
1. How did they meet?
Captain Sandy and Leah Shafer met via a private message on Facebook that Leah sent Sandy. Leah wrote: "I came across your show, congratulations, many blessings." Sandy especially was drawn to the line "many blessings" as God is an important part of her life. The women met face to face for the first time in November in Los Angeles and their love blossomed. The sparks flew. Shafer said: "It was definitely unexpected. It just happened, when you meet another soul that you connect with at such a deep level, it is unexplainable and so beautiful.” The two claim it was love at first sight.
2. She was married to a man
Leah is a an aesthetician and gospel singer who was married to comedian-TV host-motivational speaker Ross Shafer for 20 years. The couple have a 13-year-old daughter named LaurenRae who they adopted in 2006. Leah has sung the national anthem at Denver Broncos games.
3. Sandy moved to be closer to Leah
Sandy moved from Los Angeles to Denver to be closer to her new girlfriend. Sandy and Leah have many common interests and bonded over their shared love of music. Sandy and Leah are working together on a musical collaboration. Leah said: "And then, of course, the attraction and falling in love with a beautiful soul and knowing you want to be with someone forever,” Leah recalled.
4. Leah's career
Leah admitted some religious instititions have turned their back on her since she and Sandy went public with their relationship. She isn't letting that stop her, however. She said: “It’s looked against it, loving the same sex. I think you can’t help who you fall in love with. God is love. He doesn’t care.”
