Who Plays Erin In 'The Last Summer' On Netflix? New Details On Halston Sage
She's only 25 years old.
Netflix is known for putting out great original television shows — Stranger Things, Bojack Horseman, Master of None, Orange is the New Black, and The Crown are just a few — but they also feature some pretty great movies as well. And a recent one that just started streaming on May 3rd is called The Last Summer.
The film is a coming-of-age tale about a group of teenagers who struggle to deal with the ambitions, relationships, and true identities the summer before they all leave for college. And with names like KJ Apa, Jacob Latimore, and Tyler Posey, there’s no doubt it’s an all-star newbie cast.
But who plays Erin in The Last Summer on Netflix? Her name is Halston Sage, and whether or not you’ve heard of her, she’s certainly no stranger to the big screen. Here are five things to know about the young actress, her career, and her romantic life
1. She started acting in her teens.
Though Sage originally got into modeling when she was 14, at 16 years old, she began pursuing a career in acting. “I actually didn't start acting until I was sixteen, so I was very removed from the Hollywood scene. I had always been in my school plays, but my mom and dad wanted to keep me out of the business until I was old enough to know who I was and not let anyone change me,” she said.
But how did she get her start? According to Sage, “I met my agent when I was 10 years old on a family skiing vacation. He asked if I was interested in acting, and I had been doing school plays. A couple of years later, I called him up and I started auditioning.”
2. She rides horses.
Sage has been riding horses since she was eight years old and is even an award-winning equestrian!
“I grew up riding horses since I was eight. I rode English-style and competed every weekend. I had two horses, Scout and Camille, and they were my babies. It taught me a lot about responsibility and commitment. I hope horses will always be in my life,” she revealed.
And for her, there’s no doubt it’s helped shape her life: “It was the best thing I ever did for myself growing up. It taught me responsibility and gave me an athlete’s mentality — competitive but also appreciative of where hard work can get you. I carried that over into acting.”
3. Her career took off in 2013.
That year, she was cast in Grown Ups 2 alongside Adam Sandler. Shortly after, she starred in Poker Night, The Bling Ring, and Crisis. In 2014, she was in the film Neighbors and was even nominated for “Best Kiss” for her on-screen smooch with Rose Byrne.
The next year, she played Lacey in Paper Towns, an adaptation of the John Green novel. She was also in Goosebumps, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, How to Rock, Victorious, Bucket & Skinner’s Epic Adventures, and, most recently, was a main cast member on Seth MacFarlane’s The Orville, which she left after the second season.
4. She’s been romantically linked to Charlie Puth.
Back in September 2018, the two fueled rumors after they were spotted getting cozy at the Yellow Ball for New York Fashion Week. Puth shared a photo of them, with Sage sitting on his lap. They’ve been seen together on multiple other occasions, and hangout.
Puth has also been linked to Bella Thorne and was involved in a love triangle with Tyler Posey, who also stars in The Last Summer. Puth also hinted that he had a fling with Selena Gomez, though other sources say the two are just friends.
5. She also dated Zac Efron.
In 2014, Sage dated Efron after meeting on the set of Neighbors. “They are definitely an item. They were seeing each other a bit during filming of their movie together and ever since he went to rehab they got a lot closer. Her friends love him and say he is so sweet. He’s really good to her,” a source said.
Sage has also been linked to Chord Overstreet, James Maslow, and even Seth MacFarlane.
