Who Is Souleye? New Details About Alanis Morissette's Husband — And Their Pregnancy News!
They met at a meditation gathering.
Ever since “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morissette came out in 1995, women everywhere have made it their anthem in the face of betrayal and heartbreak. And when it was rumored that the subject of the song was Full House’s Dave Coulier, well ... we all wanted Alanis to find the love she deserved.
After the split from Coulier, she went on to date, and was engaged for a brief time to Ryan Reynolds. They split in 2007 but in 2010, she married Souleye.
Just who is Souleye? Born Mario Treadway, he’s a rapper and hip-hop artist known for his freestyling, and has been described as having a “silky vocal tonality, and subject matters that speak to the everyman who needs an injection of bravery, unapologetic poetic and picturesque specificity about life as a young man in the 21st century, all drizzled in his unique voice over bad ass beats.”
Influenced by Biggie Smalls, 2Pac, and Hieroglyphics, he started freestyling when he was just 14 years old. He began writing and performing music in 2001, and released his first album in 2003. Over the years, he’s collaborated with many artists, including Michael Franti, Bassnectar, BLVD, and even his own wife! Souleye has released nine albums independently.
Eventually, the two married in 2010, after meeting at a meditation gathering back in 2009. The couple has two kids: son Ever Imre, born in 2010, and daughter Onyx Solace born in 2016.
But they’re about to expand their brood even more, because on March 25th, Morissette announced the couple is expecting their third child!
Morissette made a post on Instagram showing her recording music…with a baby bump. “So much NEWness…” she captioned the photo.
Since the birth of her first child, Morissette has been open about being a mom and her struggles with postpartum depression.
In a 2017 interview with People, she revealed, “There are days I’m debilitated to the point where I can barely move. As a kid, I imagined having children and being with an amazing partner. This is a whole other wrench I didn’t anticipate... It’s very isolating. I’m used to being the Rock of Gibraltar, providing, protecting and maneuvering. It had me question everything. I’ve known myself to be a really incredible decision-maker and a leader that people can rely on. [Now] I can barely decide what to eat for dinner.”
Thankfully, her husband has been supportive of her. “My main priority is that I want to make sure both of my children are loved and bonded with and provided for. Poor Souleye sometimes gets the dregs of my exhaustion at the end of the night. Even holding hands at this point is a deeply intimate experience,” she continued.
Judging by the size of her bump, she could be expecting her new baby any week now. And in the meantime, she and Souleye will continue to be the best parents to their kids.
