Having the "STD" talk is awkward ... if it ever even comes up. So, what do we do in a world where we're more open about sex but still need to protect ourselves from STDs?

We improve our condoms, of course.

Surprisingly, teenagers came up with this innovative idea in a TeenTech Awards competition. This competition has 11 to 16 year olds come up with technology that would better life.

The teens came up with a color-changing condom called S.T.EYE.

It works through chemicals on the surface of the condom that attach to bacteria and viruses in STIs. The molecules then give off low fluorescent light that changes the condom's color.

The condom glows yellow for herpes, green for chlamydia, blue for syphilis, and purple for human papillomavirus (HPV).

"We wanted to create something that makes detecting harmful STDs safer than ever before, so that people can take immediate action in the privacy of their own homes without the invasive procedures at the doctors," explains 14-year-old Daanyaal Ali to Daily Mail. "We've made sure we're able to give peace of mind to users and make sure people can be even more responsible than ever before."

You've got to love genius teenagers. Geez, why do you think children are the future? So they can invent awesome things like this, duh.

Sadly, the S.T.EYE won't be available in stores in the foreseeable future, but at least it looks like there will be a possibility. In the meantime, be sure to get tested regularly and ask the same of your partner(s).
