Human beings are social creatures, and we're wired to feel more secure when we're part of a group. There's no better way to feel this security than by being in a long-term relationship. So while we can recognize on a purely conscious level that we don't need a committed partner in order to be happy, the truth is that a desire for long term partnership is embedded deeply into our inner core.

We've all heard about the studies that point to married people being happier; they tend to be both physically and emotionally healthier, as well. However, if you really dig into these studies, it quickly becomes less clear-cut. Does marriage make these people happier, or do people who are already happy tend to get married?

I agree with those famous words from Audrey Hepburn: "I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls" (and I also believe this applies to men). So why wait for someone to come into your life to make you happy? Start being happy now! Do more of what you love doing. Start going to all the places you want to go and do the things you long to do. Embrace activities that make you feel passionate about life. Take that exotic vacation that you've been dreaming of with some friends or even a tour group. Don't allow yourself to use the excuse that you need someone to do these actvities with in order to make them worth doing. You never know who you'll meet while you're there!

This is what living and loving your life is all about. And you can start right now, no matter what your relationship status is currently.
So go and be happy!
