Why You Should Take The High Road After A Breakup
Don't let a breakup get the best of you.
Relationships end for various reasons.
Sometimes it makes sense, but sometimes it doesn’t.
Regardless, the pain doesn’t hurt less.
It will hurt really bad; it will feel like someone stabbed your heart.
You’ll feel overwhelmed with emotions and need places to put them.
However, putting those feelings back onto the other person is not the best idea.
There is nothing harder than taking the high road after a breakup, especially when you are on the receiving end of the news.
Many people struggle to stay cool, calm, and collected when emotions are high and hearts are shattering.
Even though it is difficult, the best thing to do when a break up occurs is to take the high road.
Why?
Because not only will it make you look like the bigger person, it will keep you from saying or doing something you will inevitably regret.
Keep your head high, wish them well, and walk away with your dignity still intact.
I understand the pain of betrayal, and I know how badly you want to pick up your phone and really give it to them.
You may believe it will make you feel better, but it won’t.
Once the emotions subside, even if what you said was true, taking the high road helps you avoid this remorse altogether.
You may also want to scream and plead with the other person to reconsider.
Do not, I repeat, do not do this.
In your emotional state, you may believe that begging will change their mind. It won’t.
When someone breaks up with you, they expect you to be a basket case.
They anticipate a waterfall of tears and endless pleas to stay.
None of these reactions are going to do you any good in the long run, though.
That’s why taking the high road is so important.
When your former lover utters those fateful words, stand up tall and say “OK.”
Nod your head in agreement and say goodbye with a smile on your face.
Not only will this completely baffle the other person, but they will think highly of you when all is said and done.
They may even regret their decision to break up with you.
If you truly believe that the person who broke up with you is your soulmate, then it is even more imperative that you stay calm during this difficult time.
The time apart will clear your mind and calm your emotions.
You need this time apart, so take advantage.
Even if you’re not meant to be together, you will feel better about yourself for not losing your cool.
Your dignity will stay intact and you will be able to walk away a better, stronger person.
After all, taking the high road isn’t for the other person, it’s for you.
