New Details About Video Accusing YouTuber Shane Dawson Of Being A 'Pedophile'
He called a 6-year-old "sexy."
YouTube star Shane Dawson was recently called out for making a crude joke about his cat in an old podcast. He had to apologize via Twitter for making bestiality jokes in a 2015. He had joked that he performed sex acts on his cat when he was 19.
“I’ve never done anything weird with my cats," Shane tweeted. “I promised myself i wasn’t going to make apology videos after last years thing so i’m just trying to be as short and honest with this as possible. I’ve apologized many times for all the dumb s--t i’ve said in videos and podcasts over the years. I’ve learned my lesson over and over again and Im more confident now in my ability to be entertaining by just being myself and not being so shocking for laughs. That story was fake and was based on a dumb awful sketch idea I had years ago that I never made (THANK GOD) and when the opportunity came up for a funny moment in the podcast I told it as if it was a real story which was DISGUSTING and VERY VERY DUMB."
The "last year's thing" he's referring to was when he was accused of being a pedophile after a podcast interview he did six years ago resurfaced in which he referred to a 6-year-old girl as "sexy."
Someone compiled a five-minute video originally titled "Shane Dawson is a pedophile. Here's proof." It was posted Jan. 10, but has since been removed by YouTube. It featured some highly inappropriate comments from Dawson.
"Here’s my justification for pedophilia," he starts. "People have foot fetishes, people have fetishes about everything, that’s fine, do your thing. So why is it when somebody looks at and Googles like ‘naked baby’ on Google and j**ks off to it, they can get arrested? I don’t understand that.”
“Here’s the worst part of it," he continued. "I actually went to Google. I didn’t want to see child porn but I just thought ‘okay let me pretend like I’m a pedophile for a second.’"
"So I typed in ‘naked baby.’ First of all I don’t know why anybody would be turned on by that. But they were sexy…I’m kidding,” he laughed.
The video was deleted from YouTube but has been reposted on Twitter.
On the podcast, Dawson went on to talk about a 6-year-old girl he met. They started discussing how many followers they had, and she told him she was a cheerleader. She then showed Dawson her Instagram.
“First of all, I don’t know if I’m allowed to say this," he said, "but she’s like sexy.”
Dawson also made comments that 12-year-old girls with tattoos are also “sexy.”
After the video was made, people flocked to Twitter and "#shanedawsonisoverparty" started trending to celebrate his potential fall from YouTube stardom. His fans quickly came to his defense and called out the video saying it was highly edited and left out one very important quote Dawson said on the podcast.
"Having sex with or touching kids is disgusting," he said on the original podcast.
Dawson responded to the video with his own video (see above) denying the allegations that he's a pedophile and condemning the video for its inaccuracy.
He said those jokes were part of a gimmick he used to do to shock people early in his career. Dawson said at the time he was very insecure and felt like he wasn't confident enough to "make smarter jokes."
"I grew up," he wrote on Twitter. "I changed my content. I apologized countless times for my shitty offensive jokes. instead of dragging me down people should use me as an example of a creator who can CHANGE and better themselves and their content. i’m so proud of who i am today."
