Weed has different effects on everyone, but it usually makes people chill and relaxed. Some might even say that the high turns them on! Pot can give you more intense orgasms as well as increase sensitivity and desire.

In fact, in a study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, frequent cannabis use is associated with higher numbers of sexual partners for both men and women. But new research finds that weed is more likely to ruin your sex life — at least for people with vaginas!

Say what? Has weed been sneakily messing with our vaginas without us noticing? Apparently, yes.

According to Dr. Julie Holland, M.D. in her book, Moody Bitches: The Truth About the Drugs You're Taking, The Sleep You're Missing, The Sex You're Not Having, and What's Really Making You Crazy, smoking pot dries up your vagina.

The book details how women’s bodies are designed to alert them to prepare for different challenges by changing its mood depending on a situation. Clinically mood-altering drugs such as prescription medication or, say, marijuana, can have devastating effects on various aspects of a woman’s life such as sex, relationships, sleep, eating, focus, balance, and aging.

In addition to its emotion numbing effects, weed has the potential to dry up your vagina, unfortunately. So while it can be fun to kick back with a joint every now and then, consider the facts first. That's right, ladies. You not only get dry mouth from puffing and passing, but smoking pot dries up your vagina, too.

"It's the drying of the mucous membranes. Now, not all pot is going to give you dry mouth, but if you have had a strain that is giving you dry mouth, it will also make you drier [down there]," explains Dr. Julie Holland to Vice

But what is it about the weed that gives this mood-killing side effect? Dr. Holland says it could be that the THC, the principal intoxicating chemical in marijuana, strain is very high. So, if your vagina is acting much older than it is, you should probably switch up your marijuana... or just invest in a good lubricant.

So what can you do to combat this drying side effect?

While there’s not much you can do about the actual process of your vagina drying up while smoking pot — sorry, ladies — Holland does suggest the use of coconut oil as a lubricant. There’s even a cannabis lube called Foria if you’re feeling extra adventurous the next time your vagina could use a little help getting in the mood.
