How To Stop Being An Emotional Eater

YourTango Expert Bruce Derman explains why you turn to food for comfort.

Do you consider yourself an emotional eater? Do you feel less than confident in yourself and always turn to food for comfort? If so, help is on the way.

In this video, psychologist, relationship coach, sex therapist and YourTango Expert Dr. Bruce Derman offers advice on how to break this unhealthy habit. "Being an emotional eater has a purpose — it is to help you soothe all the feelings that you find uncomfortable," he says. To start, he suggests that you "create a dialogue with your eater so that you're having a personal relationship — back and forth — rather than experiencing that just your emotional eater is doing something that's just a terrible habit."
