Unlike some of our favorite aging bachelors, like George Clooney and Jack Nicholson (who's still enjoying the single life at 73-years-old BTW), Hugh Grant and a few other celebrity playboys, haven't gotten better with age. In fact, for some celebrity bachelors, it's all downhille after 50, as the single life doesn't quite suit them in their old age. Check out five famous fifty-something bachelors who have seen better days.

1. Hugh Grant

Take Hugh Grant for example, who just turned the big 5-0: The onetime British heartthrob seems to have taken a turn for the worst since hitting middle-age. According to our friends over at I'mNotObsessed, Hugh who isn't looking too hot (or happy) these days, hasn't worked in over a year and has no plans to make another movie anytime soon. And sadly, a slightly weathered-looking Hugh, appeared to be celebrating his big 50th birthday alone. Hugh Grant: Golf Is My Girlfriend

2. Michael Keaton

Despite the fact that he's starred opposite some smoking hot leading ladies, including Nicole Kidman, Kim Basinger and Michelle Pheiffer and even dated Courtney Cox,  59-year-old Michael Keaton remains single (after one try at marriage that ended in divorce). But we're not so sure he's that happy about his current relationship status. In a recent interview with Elle magazine, Keaton seemed to have a chip on his shoulder, making us wonder if perhaps, he's a little bitter about entering his 60's without that special someone.

3. Mel Gibson

Unless you've been without an internet connection for the past year, you probably know that since turning 50, Mel Gibson's personal and professional life has taken a serious nosedive. Not only did he recently divorce his wife of 28  years, Robyn Gibson, but he then split from his Russian girlfriend and baby mama, Oksana Grigorieva, as well. The 54-year-old bachelor is now involved in an ugly custody battle with Grigorieva, and oh yeah, he's currently being investigated for domestic abuse too. Talk about a mid-life crisis! 4. Billy Joel

Our favorite piano man, Billy Joel has seen his share of romantic ups and downs, which have made for some great music over the years. But it looked like Joel had finally settled down in his late 50's with the beautiful foodie, Katie Lee Joel. Unfortunately, after only five years (and a big boost to Katie Lee's career), the two split, leaving Joel, 61 and alone. Billy Joel Splits from Katie Lee

5. Val Kilmer

He was one hot caped crusader, so perhaps there's a Batman curse, since Val Kilmer, like some of the other actors who starred in the comic book series (a few of which made our list), including Clooney, Nicholson, and Keaton (not to mention the newly single, Jim Carrey), Val Kilmer is on the verge of 60 and all alone. And judging by the pounds Kilmer recently packed on, it looks like he's been spending more time with a tub of Ben & Jerry's than looking for love. But hey, Val, we get it—there's no better company than a pint of Chunky Munky when you're feeling lonely.
