Nicolas Sarkozy's exercise regimen improved his sex life—and it can better yours, too!

Taking love and relationship advice from French president Nicolas Sarkozy might seem a little counter-intuitive. After all, this is the man whose wife left him after his public extramarital affairs. But taking sex advice from him? That's something we can endorse.

The froggy prez has been on a serious exercise regimen, and in the past 10 months has dropped nine pounds and two pants sizes. But there's a not-so-evident benefit as well: improved sex life.

Sarkozy's trainer, Julie Imperiali, revealed the secret to her performance-enhancing routine: focus on the perineum (the area between the anus and the penis or vagina).

"Sexual relations are better if the male perineum is in good shape. The problems of premature ejaculation are often due to the perineum," Imperiali told the London Telegraph.

Keeping the perineum in shape is helpful for women as well—ever heard of Kegel exercises? Usually promoted as a way to prevent incontinence for pregnant women and  seniors, these exercises strengthen your pelvic floor, which can lead to better sex, more intense orgasms and generally make you more aware of your nether-regions—always a good idea.

Imperiali explains it like this: "You have to imagine that you have a burning need to urinate and hold it in. That works for men as well as women." A quick Google reveals tons of great Kegel regimens. The Mayo Clinic has a good one.

But Sarkozy's improved between-the-sheets-time isn't do to Kegel's alone. According to ABC News, lots of studies have shown a link between being in shape and better sex. ABC spoke to the chief science officer of The American Council on Exercise, who said squats, holding a plank position and arm-strengthening exercises are other moves that can boost your bedroom enjoyment.

Just another reason to stick with your New Year's resolutions.
