5 Cardinal Fashion Rules According To Men

What men find truly hot and sexy might come as a surprise.

As impressionable young girls brainwashed by images of Pam Anderson (and slack jawed by her effect on men), many of us (foolishly) employed questionable clothing in the name of male approval. Got breasts? Let 'em pop, baby. Dress? Hike that hemline so high that sitting doubles as a gyno appointment. No bra, no problem. Too tight? Nay. Not tight enough. Dress Your Way to Better Sex

We were right, of course. Many a man's eye got a free all-day pass at our (practically) naked bodies. But oh how angry had we known an outfit out of Pam from The Office's closet would've had made the same impression! If not more of one!

We sat down with some trusted, heterosexual male friends to find out what they think about what we wear. We expected to walk away disgruntled, disillusioned and insecure about our closets, yet it turned out the exact reverse was true. 5 Fashion Choices That Turn Him Off

1.) Cleavage Is Overrated.
It's no secret men love breasts. If you happen to rock an enviable chest, trust us, he's noticed. That said, it was unanimous that shirts providing over-the-top cleavage are unnecessary. In fact, all men surveyed found it tawdry and even a bit showboat-y. One guy compared a large-breasted lady showing too much of the goods to a built guy at the gym who can't stop staring at his own biceps. As he said: "Get over yourself, sista." Cleavage: How Much Is Too Much?

2.) Turtlenecks Aren't A Crowd Favorite.

But not for the reasons you'd expect. As per #1, it isn't as if most grown men are that desperate for a peak at The Girls, but rather he misses seeing your neck. Oh, the gurgling praise for the collarbone! One guy even said it was one of the sexiest parts of the female body. Wow. You think you know a gender!

3.) Long, Flowy Dresses Are Just As Sexy As Short Ones
.
A loose-fitting sundress seems to get an across the board thumbs-up. As opposed to a figure-hugging cocktail dress with miles of leg (which they don't hate, of course), something longer and bit billowy offers a little tease and mystery. Give 'em just a hint of what you're packing underneath. As one man said, it's sometimes more erotic to catch just a faint glimpse at the curve of your backside, rather than see the whole thing. However, shapeless sack dresses—you know, the pillow case look—are worthless. The men found them vile. Give the guy something to work with.

4.) Flip-Flops And Sandals Rock
.
He wants to see your feet. He likes your small, feminine toes. Flips-flops and low maintenance sandals are just as sexy as stilettos. Of course, we're thrilled to learn this—Lord knows a pair of $3.99 thongs are more economical (and comfortable!) than those vintage platforms we tromp around in every Saturday night. Amen.

5.) Anything Exuding Comfort Is Hot.
While we envy the Victoria Beckham's of the world who glide through life in clothing out of an ultra-chic Science Fiction novel, guys aren't afraid to slum it in Old Navy shorts, and you shouldn't be either. You're sexier in a concert T-shirt and jeans—if you exude confidence—than in a Chanel jumpsuit off the Paris runways, if you aren't 100 percent sure it flatters you. Keep in mind; this isn't a row of Anna Wintour-trained stylists or the judging panel of America's Next Top Model you're trying to impress. "At the end of the day," one said. "If she looks confident and can rock it. I'm not complaining." Wise words, wise words. But we still think you should cool it with the cleavage.

Different guys like different things, just like us girls...which is why fortunately we're not all always attracted to the same people. I think as long as a girl is confident and not afraid to be herself and likes to have fun she can pretty much go out in whatever she'd like. Sometimes I show some cleavage but not always, it depends on my mood. I've never had any guys tell me I need to cover it up so I assume they don't mind. Again ladies, don't worry so much. It's silly how we waste hours on make-up and just the right outfit...if we would just focus more on enjoying ourselves everyone would be more comfortable.

You got issues girlfriend... first you need to go to spelling school... it's COLD, not colled...

Anyway, turtlenecks have never been hot in any sense of the word except temperature! I wear them when I'm extremely COLD... see, there's that word again...

OK, enough of my spelling police garbage... don't even get me started on grammar...!

But I do agree with you, flip flops are stupid...I hate them all. Makes girls look cheap and trailer trashy... But I don't date girls, so I really don't care.

I don't like men in flip flops either...it reminds me of lazy bums on the street.

And slut girls get slut guys... no losing sleep over that one... at least for me. ;)

I think you can be "sexy, classy" as I like to call it. If I'm showing legs, I don't go overboard with the clevage or visa versa. Whether permitting I show the legs. My guys love it!

OK, first of all, no straight male EVER says "Get over yourself, sista." Your male advisor is gay.

1) Too much cleavage? Depends on the situation. At work I have seen some women show to much. Out at a club? If you've got the body, men love to see it.

2) Collarbones? Yes, but even better along with exposed shoulders. HOT!

3) Long, Flowy Dresses Are Just As Sexy As Short Ones? Umm.. sorry.. NO! Again... if you've got the body.

4) Flip-Flops And Sandals Rock? What kind of weird foot fetishist did you talk to? Nothing sexual about sandals AT ALL! When a woman puts on the f-me pumps.. she is making a sexy statement. For me, it's not a necessity at all.. but just sayin'. When she puts on sandals & flip-flops.. nuts & granola. Must be the same guy with the flowy dress fetish.

5) Anything Exuding Comfort Is Hot? OK.. this makes it obvious that a woman wrote this, not a guy. "ANYTHING".. right, let me know how that works for you.

What you all missed:
- A tight white buttoned blouse: see Jennifer Aniston
- (Moderate) hoop earrings: they accentuate that neck thing, drawing attention to an area we love to kiss. And we know if drives you crazy!
- Low-cut in the back. Yes.. don't forget the back can be as sexy as cleavage.
-The timeless turn-on of nice fitting jeans.. mm... Mmmmm

As for looks, attractive to me is a woman who takes care of herself and wears clothes that flatter her figure but don't look trashy. By flatter her figure I mean, it's great to see her figure in a nice pair of jeans or a business suit will really get my attention. Even a t-shirt that don't look so baggy that it's ready to fall off of her but fits her nice.

By trashy I mean I can't stand to go into a store and see a woman with her breasts ready to pop out of her top. It may not be right but how we dress does send a message to people and I'm not interested in the woman who sends the message that she is open to a guy hitting on her for sex.

I'd much rather see a woman with her nails done nice then to look at to much skin.

Sexiest outfit a girl i dated ever wore was a well loved totally worn out mickey mouse t-shirt - loose and baggy over a tremendously well proportioned body- it was a total winner.

I am skeptical. Men notice skimpy clothes. They might be more interested in dating a woman and treating her like a person if she dresses a little conservatively, but I think many of them like short skirts and low necklines.

I do agree though that clothes aren't that important if you have a nice body. Guys will notice it.

I'll admit, the skimpily clad gal catches my eye for a bit (and imagination for half that length of time) but, in the end, I'm not attracted to her.

Maybe I'm "profiling"...I like a woman that is comfortable with herself and what she is wearing. To me, wearing a blouse that requires double stick tape so your milk bags don't fall out or wearing a skirt that you couldn't ever bend down to pick up your dropped keys in without giving everyone the full show isn't really comfortable.

Doubtless, there are fellas out there who truly women should dress like waif-ish runway models, but then you really start getting into style over substance.

So, yes, we notice skimpy. You want us to eye-hump you all day then let your gals out in a LOW cut blouse and show high your legs go. You want a guy who really is attracted to you and wants something other than your body then dress the way that makes you feel best!

I don't think brown black, ect are vary nice to ware every day. or just often.
But red is a fun color and should not be worn every day. Just every once and a wiel. Try purples and yellow. Mix it up.
