6 Secret Places To Meet Men

Guys suggest six unexpected locales where women can go to find love.

In a single woman's dating life, she reaches the point where bars, gyms, clubs—even online dating sites—have lost luster as a means of meeting a good guy. What then? We asked our male friends at Asylum to help solve this single-lady conundrum. Below, their list of six untapped locales for meeting men.

You've searched the bars, parks, book shops and everywhere else that's ever spurned a cute meeting between Meg Ryan and a male co-star. You've cruised the aisles at the Apple Store and found nothing but dudes checking out the latest technology. Before you bite the bullet and join an NFL booster club, check out these less conventional methods for discovering the men who have been flying under the radar like Clark Kent on an off-weekend.

Conventions. Yes, we're talking Comic-Con/Star Trek/dork conventions here. One friend says, "The men there can be so grateful and fawning, it's a tremendously invigorating change of pace to date them." Then again, they may have priorities other than, you know, real-life women. Why Geeks Are The New Chic

Bar theme nights. Hunting for dates at the local bar is tired, but the local bar on Bingo night is a whole new ballgame. Not only is picking up a card and stamping out numbers actually fun, but hopefully you'll form some friendly, flirtatious rivalries with your neighboring competitors. Anyone can participate in Bingo, trivia night, spelling bees, board games or other dumb bar gimmicks; pay attention to the handsome chaps who know their Zachary Taylor from their William Jennings Bryant.

Weddings. You would think this would be an obvious choice, but most women seem to be totally caught up in trying to catch that ridiculous bouquet. Meanwhile, the men are all huddled together around the cocktail server, and there's Journey playing on the dance floor. Interrupt them and you'll find that at least one good-looker is attending the ceremonies because he, too, is a sucker for true love. Besides, nobody wants a major train wreck ruining their wedding, so these guys are already bride-approved.

Recovery programs. Meetings aren't just for alcoholics anymore (although if you're one of those, we hear AA does have a singles scene). All across the country, people come together throughout their workweeks to vent about their gambling, food and spending addictions. Got $50,000 in student debt and no way to pay it off? There's a group for that. Did your mother stage-manage you through a child modeling career? There might even be a group for that. In any case, we don't recommend crashing a la Helena Bonham Carter in Fight Club, but there's always a category one might fit oneself into for the sake of finding like-minded souls. At least you won't be able to say your man doesn't know what you're going through... Sober Dating: How To Date Without Drinking

I know couples who met through role-playing games (not the sexual kind).

Renaissance festivals seem to be great big pick up joints, at least for single people.

There are always lots and lots of guys at Home Depot.

I guess it gets back to doing what interests you and meeting people who share the interest.

The married guys are at Lowe's, the single guys are at Home Depot. ;)

seriously tho, I find that Friday nights in the home improvement center, especially around the lumber, lumber, power tools, plumbing, and garden center are loaded w/ single men who are homeowners w/o girlfriends. They're getting their supplies for their weekend projects. and man are they ever helpful.

dress like you're going on a first date to the movies--nice jeans, cute top, light make up, etc.

and stay away from the paint section--lots of women and women w/ husbands there.

I'll be in trouble if HD ever starts charging a cover charge.

Well my family goes to pretty much every section of Home Depot. I think when you go is the key. We are usually at home eating and doing some kind of family thing on Friday nights.

Around Florida, Colorado, and California go to beach clean ups, trails, volunteer for trails at the state parks, art and music festivals, habitat for humanity, take a guitar or radio and play sing along type music when camping. You'd be amazed at how many neighboring campers "Love that song!"

Volunteering is a great way to meet guys. Also, garden and home shows....Bay Fest in Mobile AL was an awesome weekend and DH and I had to laugh at how many people we saw hook up. "Hey weren't you at the last band? You and I like the same music."

With running, I highly suggest running club or joining a training group. You can find running clubs online and often people get together to train for marathons or triathlons, you can hook up with those groups through your local gym. Also, what about local sports leagues and volley ball clubs?
