I know couples who met through role-playing games (not the sexual kind).
Renaissance festivals seem to be great big pick up joints, at least for single people.
There are always lots and lots of guys at Home Depot.
I guess it gets back to doing what interests you and meeting people who share the interest.
The married guys are at Lowe's, the single guys are at Home Depot. ;)
seriously tho, I find that Friday nights in the home improvement center, especially around the lumber, lumber, power tools, plumbing, and garden center are loaded w/ single men who are homeowners w/o girlfriends. They're getting their supplies for their weekend projects. and man are they ever helpful.
dress like you're going on a first date to the movies--nice jeans, cute top, light make up, etc.

Around Florida, Colorado, and California go to beach clean ups, trails, volunteer for trails at the state parks, art and music festivals, habitat for humanity, take a guitar or radio and play sing along type music when camping. You'd be amazed at how many neighboring campers "Love that song!"
Volunteering is a great way to meet guys. Also, garden and home shows....Bay Fest in Mobile AL was an awesome weekend and DH and I had to laugh at how many people we saw hook up. "Hey weren't you at the last band? You and I like the same music."

With running, I highly suggest running club or joining a training group. You can find running clubs online and often people get together to train for marathons or triathlons, you can hook up with those groups through your local gym. Also, what about local sports leagues and volley ball clubs?
