About Joanna Schroeder
Joanna Schroeder is a writer, editor, and media critic with a focus on parenting and gender issues. As a mother of two teenage sons and a young daughter, as well as the descendant of four generations of pioneering women (and men!) who fought for equal rights of all sorts, she is uniquely interested in the intersection of gender and emotional health in children today and how emotional wellness can help progress society as a whole.
She has been published in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Redbook, Esquire, Cosmopolitan and more. She co-authored a booklet designed to help parents educate tweens and teens about the harms of anti-democracy and hate-based idologies online, available at no cost via The Wester States Center.
She is also co-author of the forthcoming book, TALK TO YOUR BOYS: 27 CRUCIAL CONVERSATIONS TO HAVE WITH BOYS & HOW TO START HAVING THEM via Workman Publishing, 2025.
She maintains an active and engaged Twitter presence with over 25,000 followers and shares quick, helpful thoughts on TikTok. The bulk of her new writing appears on Zooming Out, via Substack, available to all readers at no cost.
