About Amy James

As a mother, wife, veteran, and clinical psychologist, my passion is working with families associated with the military as well as families involved in the legal system.  Through my years of education and training, I have developed specialties in the areas of comprehensive child and family psychological assessment and treatment planning, treatment of child behavior and mood disorders, parenting education and co-parenting facilitation, couples therapy, therapies supporting military families, cognitive processing therapy for combat related PTSD, and general clinical psychology.

In the area of forensics, I regularly consult with local social services and child protection agencies to provide evaluations, treatment recommendations, and placement considerations.  I conduct child custody and parenting ability evaluations as well as fitness for duty evaluations.  I am currently in the process of obtaining a masters of arts in legal studies to augment my practice in the area of psychology and the law.

When I meet with clients, I gather a comprehensive background and evaluate strengths and areas for improvement.  I work to educate clients and validate their experiences.  Collaboratively we work together to develop a “road map” or treatment plan of how to get to the end goals.  I am personable and approachable.  I utilize empirically supported treatments and utilize a “whole person” mind-body approach to therapy.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Concord University in 2003
I graduated “Most Outstanding Graduate Student” from Florida Tech in 2007

I have been interviewed by several North Carolina news stations and have authored several newspaper articles.  I own Carolina Behavioral Health Innovations, PLLC.  CBHI is a multidisciplinary, forward-thinking group of psychological assessment and treatment professionals who work together to offer clients comprehensive care and therapeutic resources.

I am in the process of applying to become an American Psychological Association approved sponsor of continuing education.
