In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we salute the brave women who've defeated the disease.
Yesterday, E! News host and reality star, Giuliana Rancic reminded the world of the scary reality of breast cancer when she announced on the Today show that she had recently been diagnosed with the disease after having her first mammogram.
"I wasn't prepared to get a mammogram until I was 40 years old, like I'd been told," Giuliana, 37, told Ann Curry in the shocking interview. "I never in my wildest dreams expected anything to be wrong." Giuliana Rancic: Should Women Get Mammograms Before IVF?
The star's personal admission has now brought even more attention to the importance of this month, which happens to be Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To do our part, we here at YourTango currently have an initiative this week encouraging our Community to write about breasts and breast cancer-related topics. We are also hosting a "Breast-Obsessed Twitter Party" on Thursday, October 20th, to get as many people as possible involved in the conversation. #YTLovesTatas: Join Our Breast-Obsessed Twitter Party!
No woman is immune to breast cancer — it doesn't matter if you exercise daily, eat right and don't have a history of it in your family. You can still get it. Even celebrities, with their elevated lifestyles and access to all the money and resources one could want, aren't exempt.
On the bright side, breast cancer survivors are some of the most strong, brave and fierce women on Earth. They've fought hard to beat the disease, and the experience forever changes their outlook on life... and love.
Here are 9 celebrities who inspire all of us—including Giuliana—to be proactive about getting tested early and often, and that being diagnosed with breast cancer is not always the end... sometimes it's just the beginning.
