Parenting Lessons From Kirk Cameron's Anti-Gay Comment [EXPERT]

Hearing Kirk Cameron on CNN's Piers Morgan's show discussing his beliefs that homosexuality is "unnatural" "detrimental" and "ultimately destructive" is disappointing to say the least. Watching your teen idol fall from grace is never easy. As one friend told me on Twitter, ...

Groundhog Day: How To Apologize & Get Your Own Do-Over [EXPERT]

With Groundhog Day here, my mind has turned to the elusive do-over. The 1993 Bill Murray flick named for February 2nd has to be one of my all-time favorite, watch-it-every-time-it's-on movies. For those who haven't seen it (and really, what kind of carpet are you living under? Netflix it immediately), ...

MY QUESTIONS
MY ANSWERS
  • I'm sure I've tried to impress guys before but never something that was an outright lie such as "I LOVE hunting" when the thought of it makes me want to wretch! Never understood people who needed to be someone they were not just to get someone to like them. I want a guy to like me for me; that's a whole lot simpler! SEE MORE

    POSTED ON: q from brett

  • Brett, That's a wonderful question. What you want to think about is what you could offer her that will make her feel wonderfully pampered and adored? Giving great gifts is always tied to what the receiver feels is a gift, it's never about the giver. It's about what the receiver believes to be something that makes their life easier, better and genuinely better than it was before you gave it to them. Spend a little time observing her and see what she likes. What are the things she appreciates and admires? Then find something that's reasonable and within your budget that works for her. Maybe it's flowers because she loves beautiful colors and wonderful smells. Maybe it's a card that you hand write your feelings on because she's commented on how nice it is to read an actual letter from someone. Maybe it's a day off because you've observed how tired she is by Friday when the week is over. Maybe you make her breakfast and with your family bring it to her in bed without asking her to help at all because you see that she deserves to be pampered without any expectation that she "act like a mom" for that little bit of time. Or maybe it's you coming home on time for dinner the week after mother's day because you know she misses you and would value spending a little time together. The idea is you find something that fits with her value system and you give that. Not something you think she "needs" but something she truly wants. How does that sound to you? This is one great way to figure out what your wife will really love for Mother's Day and believe me, you'll get a ton of points for helping her in a way that she truly appreciates. Love to keep talking, let me know what you decide! Take care, Melanie SEE MORE
