Time to start thinking positively.

The easiest way to ditch the weight and get higher self esteem is to ditch the negativity in your life. Sounds easy, right?

When we focus on what we don’t have, we attract a state of lack and we continue to live in a state of negative thinking.

Ask yourself this question: Why do you want to lose weight? If your answer is to fit into a size two bikini, get the guy, impress your friends at your next high school reunion, you might be going about it the wrong way.

All the answers I gave you are ego based and ego will get you in trouble every time. The ego is going to lie to you (you’re not smart enough, good enough, tall enough, etc.). Have you ever noticed on a day when you’re not at your best and you look in the mirror and automatically you think ‘God I look fat!’ and that little voice in your head says ‘Yeah, you do!’ That’s your ego.

Smack it around and stuff it back in the box!

The main reason to banish negative thoughts is that they get in the way of you being able to experience and enjoy life.

Most women struggle with their weight for a variety of reasons — genetics, pregnancy, illness and menopause.  We are masters at judging ourselves in negative terms.  Unfortunately, this negative judgment lowers our self-esteem and leads us down the road of hopelessness, doubt and discouragement.

When you feel negativity begin to creep back into your life try the "Thought Stopping Technique" developed by  Marsha Hudnall of Fitwoman.com.
The steps are simple:

1. When you catch yourself in a cycle of worry, yell really loudly in your head “STOP!”

2. Say to yourself: “It doesn’t do me any good to think like this now.”

3. Create a relaxing scene in your mind – the more vivid the better – and stay there for as long as you can, even if it’s only a millisecond.

4. Work to develop a healthier voice that challenges negativity.

I know you're thinking there's no way you can do this because it's not natural.

Here is my advice: FAKE IT.

Fake it until you feel it; fake it until if feels old hat, fake it until someone says to you ‘Wow, you are a real Suzy Sunshine! Where can I get some of that?’

Losing weight isn’t just about the diet, drinking water and getting exercise. Your mental attitude, the people around you and your environment all play a role. It’s usually the negative chatter in our heads that gets in the way.

Perhaps it’s time to look at the people in your life, or your environment. Maybe you have friends, family or co-workers that never have anything nice to say, always have a problem with somebody, act or speak in negative terms and stress you out every time you see them.

I’m not saying cut them out of your life completely, but you may want to consider not engaging with them on a regular basis. This will reduce your stress level and allow you the space you need to create a more positive mindset.

Elisabeth Kubler-Ross said “negativity can only feed on negativity”.  Have you ever noticed that?  It’s a mob mentality when it comes to negative self talk.  You think one bad thought and all of a sudden this tsunami of crap just starts flooding your brain.

It happens to all of us, but the key is recognizing when you are doing it, catch yourself and go back to the four steps of the "Thought Stopping Technique". As with any new skill, practice, practice, practice until it becomes a natural habit.
