Fall is prime time for dating — use these tips to meet someone new and see what happens.
Fall is most definitely upon us. Crisp weather, wool sweaters and changing leaves are sure signs fall is hunkering down. In the matchmaking industry, fall is notoriously "high season." With cooler weather comes a renewed desire to find a partner to keep you warm during the cold months to come. Are you looking for love, but are at a loss where to find your special someone? Despair no more!
1. Stadiums, Ballparks and Sports Bars
This one might seem obvious, but it's for the women who complain they don't know where all the guys hang out, and for the men who complain they can't meet women who like sports. Problem solved! Whether you're cheering on your local baseball team in the playoffs, attending a pre-season NFL game or watching college football or basketball, there are lots of sports options this fall. Even if you're watching in a bar or restaurant, a sporting event is one of the public events where talking to and interacting with the strangers around you is socially accepted and even expected! So find your team spirit and get cheering!
2. Happy Hours
Often during fall, everyone goes into, "Oh no, it's going to be really cold soon and dark at 4pm!” mode and finds extra incentive to enjoy the last gasp of warm weather. Combine that with fewer people traveling on vacation and it leads to an uptick in happy hour attendance. Instead of heading out of town Friday nights, more and more people head to their local bar. Don't miss out on the fun — join them!
3. Halloween Parties
Halloween gets bigger and bigger every year. Gone are the days when it's just for trick-or-treaters or drunken college students. No one is too grown up to dress up and have some Halloween fun! From bars to parades to offices, Halloween parties are everywhere. Don't just go out in jeans and boots on Halloween — let loose and dress up! Take it up a notch and put in some real effort. Don't rely on your local pop-up Halloween retail store for a ready-made costume. The more inventive and clever your costume is, the more of a conversation starter it can be. Ladies, adding a provocative spin to any ordinary Halloween costume (nurse, librarian, zombie) is not the most creative option. Peruse the Internet for some clever costume ideas, or feel free to steal any of my recent costumes: A Blessing in Disguise, Runaway Bride or Black Widow (spider in mourning). They were all big conversation starters!
Fall is the season for new exhibits and for fundraising, so there are more opportunities this time of year for mixing and mingling at your local museum or art gallery. While some of these events can be pricey, others are free or tax-deductible, so make sure you do your homework. Nine times out of ten there is food, wine or cocktails, so after a drink or two I'm sure you'll have a lot to say about that giant pickle sculpture in the middle of the room.
5. Bikes, Runs, Walks, and Run-Walks
Now that it's no longer sweltering outside, and it's not yet freezing, it's race season. There are hardcore marathons, fundraising walks, runs and "fun runs" like local color runs or zombie runs. These events attract men and women from all walks of life, so you never know who might be on that bike next to you. If you're more of a cheerleader than a participant, that's OK too — there are lots of spectators on the sidelines! Bring some hot chocolate and strike up a conversation with that cute guy/gal cheering on their sister!
