About Dan Neuharth

Hello -- I am a psychotherapist & couples counselor and author based in the San Francisco Bay area. Let me ask you a question:  Do you feel deprived, frustrated, or walking on eggshells in one or more of your most important relationships?

If you answered yes, there are many paths and tools that can help you. Whether it is your relationship with your partner, friends, family members, work connections, or your relationship with yourself (for many of us, our most neglected relationship), relationships should enhance your joy, health, and well-being -- not cause stress or suffering.

My more than 20 years' experience counseling couples, families, and individuals has taught me that when you improve how you view and treat yourself, even in small ways, the benefits are enormous.

Here are some resources that can help:

Couples therapy: As a couples therapist I serve as a resource, coach, ally, cheerleader, advisor, and sometimes even a referee. I draw from a combination of emirically validated couples therapy approaches including Emotionally Focused Therapy, adult attachment therapy, Gottman’s approach, Imago therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I have a psychotherapy practice in the San Francisco Bay area as a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (Lic. #LMFT29178). I also write a regular blog on relationships, Love Matters, at PsychCentral.com.

Dealing with Narcissistic People:  Narcissists can be among the most toxic people around. If you have a narcissistic parent, partner, boss, friend, or family member, my book If You Had Controlling Parents: How to Make Peace with Your Past and Take Your Place in the World, a national bestseller on this topic, may be helpful to you. You can also read my regular blog, Narcissism Decoded, on PsychCentral. More resources on dealing with narcissistic people.

Overcoming Self-Sabotage:  We all get in our own way from time to time but when it becomes a pattern, you are suffering needlessly. My book Secrets You Keep From Yourself: How to Stop Sabotaging Your Happiness, offers dozens of ways to overcome anxiety, procrastination, poor self-image, and denial so you can achieve your goals and improve the quality of your life. More resources on overcoming self-sabotage.

Consultations via email or webcam: If you are seeking to increase confidence or self-esteem, clarify your goals, or feel stuck and want help in breaking through what is holding you back, I may be able to help you with an online consultation. I invite you to contact me to discuss how I may be able to help you find greater contentment.
