Who Is Nico Parker? New Details About Thandie Newton's Daughter Who's Starring In Live-Action 'Dumbo'
She's only 14 years old.
There’s nothing cooler than celebrity kids who look like their famous parents. And though Suri Cruise, Ava Witherspoon, and Kaia Gerber are just a few of these Mini-Mes, there’s another up-and-coming young woman we should pay attention to: Nico Parker.
Who is Nico Parker? Though her name may not sound familiar, you’ve certainly heard of her mom, Thandie Newton. Newton is most notable for her roles in Run Fatboy Run, Westworld, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and Crash, but it seems like her daughter is already following in her mother’s footsteps. Nico has been cast in the 2019 remake of Dumbo!
So, what do we know about Nico Parker, her life growing up, and her future acting roles? Here are a few details to know about the 14-year-old actress and how she’s more than just Thandie Newton’s daughter.
1. Her father is famous, too.
Though Thandie Newton has starred in a number of leading film and television roles, Nico’s father, Ol Parker, is also part of Hollywood fame. Parker wrote and directed Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, and wrote Now Is Good and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
Nico also has an older sister, Ripley, and a younger brother, Booker. And while Ripley isn’t an actress, she made headlines when she called MP Boris Johnson a c*** to his face at a performance of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
2. Dumbo will be her first role.
Nico has been cast in the upcoming 2019 live-action remake of Dumbo, directed by Tim Burton. The film will star Eva Green, Danny DeVito, Michael Keaton, and Colin Farrell. Nico plays the daughter of Farrell, who is asked to look after Dumbo and later realizes he can fly.
In an interview with Vogue, when asked about the pressures of reboots, Nico said, “At first it was nerve-wracking remaking such a classic story. In the end, though, I just got swept up in the magic of it all — the costumes, the stunts, the effects... I am really excited to get to share it with people. Not family, though. That’s scary.”
3. But she won’t take any acting advice from her parents.
“Giving me acting advice is a bit stressful. Because, I don't know if you know, but she [Thandie Newton] is better than I am... When it came to acting, I didn’t really want advice. It was very much my own experience,” she told the Hollywood Reporter.
But there was one piece of advice her father told her that she uses. To remember people’s names, “Say the name in your head three times and trace the way the name is spelt on your leg three times."
4. Her mom wants her to feel empowered.
As she explained in a 2010 interview, Newton wanted to make sure her daughters grew up believing they could do anything. “I want my girls to feel empowered. That’s the most important thing. I think as a mom it’s important to teach your children that they’re extraordinary, powerful beings. Your job is to keep the path clear so there is nothing they can trip up on,” she said.
And it’s certainly had an effect on Nico.
