Are Nicki Minaj And Drake Still Friends?
They unfollowed each other on Instagram.
Okay don't panic, but it would appear Nicki Minaj and Drake have unfollowed each other on Instagram.
While there haven't been any other major signs of beef, the Insta unfollow heard round the world has us all wondering: are Nicki Minaj and Drake still friends?
The news that the two rappers are no longer following each other broke Wednesday night via Instagram after The Shade Room posted a video displaying a failed search for either rappers' handle in the other's following.
For anyone who was listening to music back in the early 2010s, Nicki and Drake's friendship was the stuff of legends.
The two rappers came up together as members of Young Money (raise your hand if you can still rap every word of Nicki's verse in BedRock) before going on to become the two most successful artists to sign to the Lil Wayne imprint.
Since rising to the separate heights of their respective solo careers, however, the rappers seem to have gradually grown apart.
Back in 2013, Drake was already hinting that the two were growing distant. On the track "Tuscan Leather" from Nothing Was The Same, the Drake rapped, "Not even talkin’ to Nicki, communication is breakin'."
Two years later, the friendship showed more signs of trouble when Drake got into a very public feud with Nicki's then-boyfriend, Meek Mill.
The two seem to have since patched things up, and Drake even invited Nicki's now-ex on stage onstage during a performance in Boston in September. However, given the rumored state of Nicki and Drake's friendship, the gesture suddenly seems less like an official end to the Drake-Mill beef, and possibly more like a dig at Nicki.
For her part, the "Barbie Dreams" artist has also thrown some shade at her former friend. On the hit summer single, Nicki called Drake out, rapping, "Drake worth a hundred mill, he always buyin’ me s–t / But I don’t know if the p—y wet or if he cryin’ and s–t.”
While it could have just been a friendly dig, the line seems a little more telling in light of the recent Insta-unfollow.
Back in June, however, Minaj posted a snap of Drake's latest album to her Instagram, congratulating the rapper on the Scorpion release. So maybe there's hope?
While we don't know whether or not any of this really means anything, it certainly seems like this power-friendship has cooled down in recent years. Hopefully, we don't have to say RIP to rap's favorite non-couple-couple of the 2010s.
