Evan Brewer is the grandson of Wichita's former mayor and candidate for Kansas' governor.

When a landlord was cleaning out his rental property after an eviction, he discovered a suspicious looking concrete structure with a strange odor coming from it.

He called the police, and officers found the remains of a 3-year-old boy.

Police said on Monday, that DNA evidence confirmed that the body belongs to Evan Brewer, the grandson of Carl Brewer, former Wichita mayor and candidate for the governor of Kansas.

“We are devastated by the death of our sweet and loving grandson, Evan,” Brewer said in a statement, confirming that the body was Evan's even though the police haven't. “We can not begin to make sense of this tragedy but are thankful the suspects are in custody. We request prayers and privacy for our family during this difficult time and while the police continue their investigation.”

Evan's father, Carlo Brewer, was issued a protection from abuse order in July after an allegation of abuse was brought against him on behalf of the toddler. It's unclear what the alleged abuse was.

At the time, Evan was in his mother Miranda Miller's custody, but police couldn't find her — or Evan — to serve the order.

They thought she left the state with him.

Police said she was "actively eluding" them.

In August, Police found Miller and arrested her on suspicion of aggravated interference with parental custody. That same day, Stephen Bodine, who lived at the house with Miller where a boy's body was recently found, was arrested on the same charge.

Bodine was also charged with aggravated assault and criminal damage to property.

He slashed the tires on the car of Evan's stepmom, as seen in the video below.

She posted about the incident on Facebook:

"I knock on the door where my stepson was last seen (which is supposedly vacant) and this guy Stephen Bodine aka Bo yells thru the door and says he's holding him hostage in the basement, threatens to 'chop' me up 'into little pieces,' and proceeds to open the door, tries to attack with a hatchet, then busts our tire."

Warning, it is disturbing.

The police didn't find Evan during either of those arrests, and three neighbors of the house where the body was found said they've never seen him. They didn't even know how long Miller and Bodine had been living at the house.

Two weeks ago, 30-40 people gathered in protest in front of the house and left missing child fliers with Evan's picture on them on their cars.

Nobody has been charged with his death yet.
