A police official called it "the worst case of child abuse in recent memory."

After finally fleeing from the house where she endured ongoing abuse for several months, one 10-year-old New York girl shocked police when she told them the abuse and torture she had been through.

Deputies reported that the child has been the "target" of beatings by her mother, her mother's boyfriend, her mother's boyfriend's sister and her mother's boyfriend's sister's boyfriend.

Since April, the girl has been struck by open hands, closed fists and kicked repeatedly.

The young victim also said she was allowed only one meal a day that was doused in hot sauce. She also had to work outside all day without food, water, or access to the bathroom.

Police said that in one particularly awful incident, the girl was taken to a park and forced to run with weighted backpacks while a vehicle followed her. If she ran too slow, the car would hit her.

She was tied to the back of the car and dragged for running too slow.

The girl escaped the abuse when she fled the house and ran to a neighbor's. She's currently in the hospital.

Oswego County Undersheriff Eugene Sullivan said it's the worst case he's seen in his recent memory.

"The whole thing is just awful," he said. "I've been talking about it all day and I can't wrap my brain around it."

Four people were charged. Leslieann Raeder, the girl's mother, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Gary Bubis, Raeder's boyfriend, was charged with second-degree assault, along with his sister, Brandy Shaver and her boyfriend, Shawn Whaley.

Police say Bubis' assault charges were made from another allegation that he forced a 3-year-old's hand into a container of hot water, causing burns.

The 3-year-old and a 12-year-old lived in the home with the other victim. They're now with other family members.

Sullivan said police believe the adults targeted the 10-year-old victim out of the three children because they saw her as a "naughty" child.

"So this was as a result of discipline and trying to make her behave," he said. "Frankly all we can get right now is that her offenses amounted to sneaking food, trying to get food; trying to do things that kids do."
