There’s a new Harry Potter movie!
And, while, yes, we do realize that the Boy Who Lived won’t be making an appearance, there are still plenty of reasons to be excited for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
People were skeptical that J.K. Rowling could one of her shortest fictional works into a full-length movie, but everything we’ve seen so far about Fantastic Beasts looks… frankly, fantastic.
The best part is — this is the first time we’ll get to see a J.K. Rowling Potterverse movie where we’re not spending the whole time thinking, “I can’t believe they cut that! What about Peeves, the Longbottoms at St. Mungo’s, or S.P.E.W?!”
This is the first wholly original film story that Rowling has ever created — she wrote the screenplay herself — so we can’t wait to experience all of the film’s wonderful new creations. That’s another exciting aspect of Fantastic Beasts… there’s just so much we simply don’t know.
If you’re dying to see how the story of Newt Scamander sets up the world of Harry Potter, we’ve gathered these 50 facts that you NEED to know before you see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
While the rest of the films are still in the works, the second movie in the series already has a tentative release date for November 2018!
Newt is the author Harry and the gang’s textbook “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”, which they used mainly in their Care of Magical Creatures class.
The "Hogwarts Classics" is a trilogy of supplemental books that are textbooks used in the Potterverse.
The other two “Hogwarts Classics” are Quidditch Through the Ages by Kennilworthy Whisp and The Tales of Beedle the Bard (with an introduction by Albus Dumbledore).
Comic Relief is a U.K. based charity which strives to end poverty since its creation in 1985.
It's only 42 pages long and is less like a novel and more like an encyclopedia of magical creatures.
Because, like any textbook, it's so much fun to read what previous owners have scribbled on the pages.
It's a mouthful, no wonder he just goes by Newt.
Which makes him about 28 years old when this movie takes place. (It's set in 1925.)

Earlier in 2016, she published the script version of her two-part play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
While the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child tells the story of what happened after Harry Potter grew up.

One of Fantastic Beasts's supporting characters, Queenie Goldstein, will practice a brand-new form of Legilimency, a kind of magical mind-reading, that was discussed during the Harry Potter novels
But J.K. Rowling has since debunked the rumor as false. However, the movies are supposed to span the course of years.
