You take best friends for life very seriously.
I can name all my best friends over the years in order. Of course, there were many more of them when I was growing up; quickly changing best friends seems to come with the territory when you’re young.
It’s not to say that best friends aren’t important — they are. No matter how old you are, but generally, as you age, you find that you don’t have to qualify people to the same degree. A friend is a valuable thing no matter what their ranking is.
Best friends are someone who knows all your secrets and is there for you no matter what, and they’re somebody that you’re there for as well. After our relatives, friends help us to learn about relationships and give and take, and how to be supportive, kind, and generous.
As we get older, we seem to have friends for different activities — I may go see chick flicks with one friend and live music with another. Many of the friends I have, I’ve been friends with since high school and before. There’s something special about a friend with whom you have a shared history with and someone who knows why certain weird things make you both laugh.
Friends have always been very important to me as they are in some ways more like family to me than the people I’m related to. However, I’m not a perfect friend; I often fail and it’s the fact that, despite my failures, my friends still love me, and it's a testament to the power of friendship. You’re allowed to make mistakes and your relationship will continue.
For some people, their partner is their closest friend but that seems problematic to me. You don’t always want to discuss the annoying things your partner does with them; sometimes you just want to rant to someone without repercussion. All of us are unique and so is our style of best-friending.
Here’s the kind of best friend you are, based on your zodiac sign.
You're definitely the leader of the squad as you are brave, impulsive, and dominant. You usually decide where you and your friends are going to hang out or what you're going to do. You encourage your besties to do things they'd never do on their own and you challenge them to push their boundaries.
You live by the code "best friends for life." You take friendship very seriously, and are always there for your friends and always extremely loyal. Tauruses are reliable and you're always there when your friend needs a shoulder to cry on. There are times when you prefer to stay at home, but your friends can always come to you as your door is always open.
You're the person who can make a party disaster into a party success. You have a lot of friends but you still make your closest friends feel special and loved. You're great at heart-to-heart talks and getting people talking at social events. You're very social but can still focus on your friend if need be.
When it comes to friendship, you give as good as you get. If your friend is fully invested in your relationship, so are you, but if you feel that they're not that into it, you can cool off. But honestly, why would they ever want to lose you as a friend? You're there for them, listening to their problems, giving them great advice and supporting them in whatever they do.
You could never limit yourself to one best friend — you need a squad of besties. Being friends with you is like being friends with the most popular girl in school or being friends with a celebrity: it's glamorous, exciting, and fun. Sometimes your friends may have to fight for your attention but when you give it, they feel as if the sun is smiling on them.
With your friends, you're like a parent to them as they always come to you for practical advice and problem-solving. You've got your act together and your friends look up to you as someone to emulate; they all secretly want to be like you when they grow up.
You're the perfect combination of best friend and therapist. You completely understand where your friend is coming from when she comes to you with a problem and you're able to listen without judgment. You want to help people, and you do. The only problem is that sometimes you break the girlfriend code and tell a secret that you shouldn't. It's not that you aren't trustworthy, it's just that you can't resist a good piece of gossip.
You have one best friend and one best friend only, but you are there 100 percent for your friend. You make your friend's priorities your own and would do anything for someone you cared about. As long as your friends tell the truth, you'll be there for them; if they lie, they'll be instantly dead to you.
You're fabulously fun and will introduce your friends to all kinds of new things — from foods to foreign lands. You're great to travel with because you get so excited going to new places. However, you don't do great if your friend gets too needy and clingy. You don't do friends who are too emotional. You're less of a best friend and more of a group friend.
You're an amazing friend — one minute you giving some very good yet honest advice, and the next you're throwing the party to end all parties. You've got a wicked sense of humor which keeps your friends laughing, but those closest to you know that your heart is huge and that when you give in your friendship it's for the long-term.
You're the observant friend and will notice when something is off before anyone else. You're supportive without being overly emotional. Your friends know that underneath that aloof exterior beats the heart of an extremely loyal and compassionate friend. When those around you are losing it, you stay calm and level-headed. You encourage your friends to be their true selves, no matter how freaky they may be.
The friends you have are friends you made a long time ago as you're careful about making new friends. You're very caring, especially to your best friends and are there for them when they're in need. You put your friend's wants and needs before your own.
