5 Reasons The Mysterious JonBenét Ramsey Case STILL Fascinates Us

20 years later, we're still wondering what happened to JonBenét.

It's been almost 20 years since the death of JonBenet Ramsey in her home in Boulder, Colorado. JonBenet was only six, but due to her status as a child beauty pageant winner and her parents' wealth, the case became — and still remains — one of the most high-profile unsolved mysteries of all time.

Her death happened back in 1996 and has stunned us every since. Now, 20 years later, JonBenet's brother Burke Ramsey is scheduled to appear on the Dr. Phil show in September. This will be the FIRST time he'll speak publicly about her murder (which is major, considering both JonBenet's brother and parents were widely regarded as suspects in her death.)

This case transcends age groups, with people both young and old curious about the death of the former child beauty queen. Here are five reasons why the JonBenét Ramsey case continues to intrigue us.

1. It remains an unsolved case.

Since 1996, there have been so many different suspects and theories about the case that it's hard to keep track. Details and who actually committed the crime have made headlines even up until this very day.

2. The entire investigation may have been botched.

Recently, a former Boulder police chief revealed all the mistakes made in the case. And, WOW — there are tons of them. From the crime scene not being immediately sectioned off to the confession of someone who turned out to be the wrong suspect, the errors in the case seemingly never end.

3. A private investigator is still holding out hope.

Ollie Gray (a private investigator originally hired by the Ramseys) has still not given up hope on finding out what really happened to JonBenét. Since the case had so many holes, he believes it needs a whole new try. He continues to work on this case without pay to this day. It's nice to know that someone is still fighting for a resolution.

4. The story continues to remain relevant.

Further proving that this case is still very much in the public eye, the Investigation Discovery channel will be airing a three-part television series centuring on the JonBenet investigation. It will reexamine the case and include a number of interviews — including one with Ollie Gray himself.

5. Some believe JonBenet Ramsey may still be alive...

And she became... Katy Perry?! In what may be the craziest conspiracy theory of this year, Internet theorists speculated that JonBenet's death was faked and she grew up to become pop star Katy Perry. Despite the fact that this assumption makes pretty much zero sense, it did go viral earlier this year (though we aren't holding our breaths on the fact that our favorite California Gurl could be the reincarnation of the young beauty pageant winner).
