Body positivity FTW!
San Francisco photographer Carey Fruth, inspired by the iconic rose petal fantasy imagery in the film American Beauty, has created a beautiful photo series that celebrates all different types of women.
In the movie, a middle-aged man conjures a fantasy of a thin, blonde, teenaged girl. In Carey Fruth's series, she pushes the paradigm of American beauty standards by using women of all different kinds of shapes, sizes, ethnicities, and ages.
"Most of the models are people I know, either through working with them before at Shameless Photography or through body positive and burlesque communities here in San Francisco. I wasn't only looking for diversity, but also for people who believed in the message of this project," says Carey in the press release for the American Beauty photo series.
The result is stunning. The women look confident, strong, and beautiful, even if they aren't what mainstream media usually shows as beautiful.
"When women come into my studio, I want to prove to them that they ARE as beautiful as they always feared they weren't." These photos prove that:
1. Beautiful in her own way.
Beauty has no age limit.
2. She looks like a model, but she's not.
Rather than sexual objects, the models were encouraged to be self-possessed, empowered subjects.
3. Believe in your beauty.
You can be whatever you want to be.
4. A real life beauty
Women aren't just one type; they're every type.
5. Beauty isn't one-size-fits-all.
Being comfortable in your own skin is beautiful.
6. Strong is sexy.
7. We're ALL worthy.
We're all worthy of respect, love, and self-love.
8. Every woman has an inner-bombshell waiting to come out.
Bam! goes the beauty explosion.
9. Feeling gorgeous is powerful in itself.
Celebrate the beauty that's YOU.
10. Destroy the stereotypes.
Authentic in sensuality.
11. You must own your sexiness in order to feel it.
"I've experienced the other side of the camera, and it's terrifying."
12. She's not just a pretty face.
Whether you're a size zero or plus size, you should never feel shamed because of your size.
13. A confident woman is always beautiful.
Believe in your beauty.
14. Learn to love your body, and yourself.
Let go of the fear and accept that you're beautiful.
