1. It benefits people with diabetes.

We bet they didn’t teach you the benefits of tequila in health class. Don’t worry, we’ll lend you a little bit of our knowledge.

A natural sugar, agavin, found in the plant used to make tequila may be able to lower the blood glucose levels of people with type 2 diabetes. According to research presented at a meeting of the American Chemical Society, because agavinsare non-digestible and can act as a dietary fiber, they could make a possible sweetener for diabetics!

So what if you can’t currently get drunk while lowering your blood sugar? There’s always hope for the future!

2. It helps you stay slim.

Agavin does more than offer an alternative sweetener to those with diabetes, it can help you fend off those extra pounds you may pack on while partying this summer! Newsday reports that the agavin sweetener can make you feel fuller longer, so you’re less likely to overeat.

3. It aids digestion.

Finding it difficult to digest the fact that tequila has health benefits? Well, drinking some of this popular Mexican liquor should help! According to Forbes, taking a shot of tequila before lunch can help stimulate your appetite, and taking one after big dinners helps the digestive process.

4. It transforms into diamonds.

When life hands you tequila, make diamonds…or something like that. If this doesn’t quite sound like a familiar saying, maybe it will soon. Physicists from the National Autonomous University of Mexico have found a way to transform a girl’s best friend (tequila) into her other best friend (diamonds).

Unfortunately, these synthetic diamonds can’t be used for jewelry, but they can be used for some other cool stuff like computer chips and medical procedures.

5. It doesn't give you a hangover.

Remember that time you woke up with a massive hangover and said, “I’m never drinking again”? (Okay, we know, it was more than just the one time.) Well, now you can go back to drinking tequila!

A Forbes article tells us that we can avoid the world’s worst headache by sticking to some of the Mexican good stuff. Step one is to make sure what you’re drinking is true tequila (if it says “100% Agave” on the label, you’re in the clear). Step two is to show a little self-restraint and refrain from throwing them back one right after another.

So you know what this means—grab your sky-high heels from the back of your closet; it’s time to par-TAY!

6. It keeps you sharp in old age.

A shot a day keeps the doctor away—no, really, it’s true! Researchers in a U.S. study discovered that individuals who down between eight and 14 alcoholic drinks per week have a 37% lower chance of suffering from dementia later on in life.

7. It's fuel of the future.

If tequila has the power to fuel us through a night of heavy partying, just think about it could do for our world! According to an ABC, scientists have found a way to take the leaves from the plant used to make tequila (our favorite tasty beverage is made from the stem), and convert them into biofuel for our future.
