Heidi Montag, the 23-year-old former star of MTV reality show, The Hills, recently underwent 10, yes 10, plastic surgeries at one time. She debuted her new look (complete with tucked ears, reduced chin, lifted brows and size-DDD breasts) in a People magazine exclusive.
Husband of almost two years and fellow fame-monger, Spencer Pratt, 26, who also appeared on The Hills, stood by her during the ordeal, video camera in hand. Though Spencer told People he tried to stop his wife, who hopes for even bigger breast implants soon, he ultimately decided it was her decision. "It's scary," he said. "I don't think she could have bigger breasts at this point—she has a little body! But no one understands how she feels except her, so it's not my call."
Heidi acknowledged that Spencer wasn't in favor of the surgery, telling People,
For the past few years he's been like 'No Heidi, you're so beautiful. This is out of control.' But I'm my own person and I knew in my heart it's what I wanted.
In addition to wanting to feel beautiful, Heidi decided she needed to up her sex appeal to compete in the entertainment industry against the likes of Britney Spears. The would-be pop star personally bankrolled her just-released album (aptly named Superficial) and hopes her new look will help recoup the investment.
Like any health-related issue, the physical, emotional and monetary impact of Heidi's surgeries will affect Spencer and their marriage. Should he have had a say in her decision? Should he have stopped it? A marriage is the union of two distinct people; where's the line between making decisions as a unit, and maintaining your individuality?
