Stephanie Birkitt, the woman at the center of the Letterman drama, wrote in her diary that she continued having a relationship with Dave, even after she moved in with Joe Halderman, the man who eventually tried to blackmail the comedian.
As we wrote yesterday, Halderman was making over $200k a year as a producer for CBS. A fair amount of money, even after you factor in the almost $7k a month he pays in child support. So perhaps his extortion scheme was motivated in part by his anger at Birkitt and Letterman. According to the New York Post,
Halderman exploded when he read Birkitt's diary in December and learned that she was still carrying on a steamy affair with Letterman.
In other Letterman news, the funnyman apologized on air last night. Saying it didn't occur to him that people would ask his current staff if they were having sex with him, he clarified: "No, I am not having sex with these women. Those episodes were in the past… I'm terribly sorry I put the staff in that position." [Newser]
He went on to apologize to his wife, Regina Lasko, saying, "My wife...has been horribly hurt by my behavior. If you hurt a person and it's your responsibility, you try to fix it. And at that point there are only two things that can happen. Either you're going to make some progress and get it fixed, or you're going to fall short and perhaps not get it fixed. Let me tell you folks, I got my work cut out for me."
Wise words, Dave. We hope you can figure out a way to make things right with your wife and put this episode behind you. 6 Important Benefits Of Forgiving
