Vogue's October issue will feature Michelle Williams on the cover looking gorgeous and optimistic. Inside, she opens up about the dark days surrounding Heath Ledger's sudden death in January of 2008, and her struggle to acclimate to a new reality. Says the 29-year-old:
I didn’t know what my boundaries were for a long time, which made interviews feel very unsafe. I can talk about grief because that’s mine, about single parenting, about trying to balance work and kids. But what I don’t have to talk about is what happened between Heath and me in our relationship. YourTango: Life After Infidelity And Widowhood
Although there were times when she was "holding it together by a string and a paper clip," things did improve and indeed, time softened the emotional wounds caused by Ledger's death, who was not only her estranged fiance, but the father of their daughter Matilda (who lives with the actress in Brooklyn with Michelle). “I’m falling more and more in love with her and I think she deserves the bulk of my attention," Williams says of her daughter. "We’re lucky. I can work. She can go to a good school. There’s a lot there for her. And she can know her dad in so many ways, and so many of his friends who will be able to tell her so many stories. His friends, his family—they were a big part of his life, and they will be a big part of her life.” Celebrity Love: 8 Celebrities Whose Deaths Left Mourning Exes
It seems that Michelle's dark days are behind her, and she's feeling "hopeful and grateful." In fact, the turmoil of the past 18 months has deepened her appreciation for all life has to offer. "For a while I thought we had lost everything," she says. "It makes you want to love better and live better."
